It doesn't seem like I can shut down any personal message business for individuals or for the whole board (not that I'd ever think of doing that). I get my own steady stream of emails and MySpace messages all in a similar vein. I know what Shane means when he says its like having not done your homework. You can't help but feel a tad guilty for not replying to them all, but it is just not possible. They never end! haha You just hope that most of these people understand why they don't get a reply. But there's always someone who feels they cannot be ignored. Anyway, I think the best thing is to reply to any such new messages from 'noobs' ( ) by just posting a link to this thread. Perhaps I will change the title of this thread to something like "NEW MEMBERS PLEASE READ!" in a few days, and leave it as a sticky post that stays at the top of the board.

I think I've just spammed everyone up with two identical messages! That's web-wise for you! ;D
Anyway, by PM'ing everyone, all the people who have sent you a message Shane have now received a personal message linking them to your opening post in this thread. So you can pretty much throw all your homework away now!
If I change the title of this thread as described in the post above, then that should inform new lurkers of the policy and the reason.
Annoying that I can't doctor the personal message system though.

simple way of dealing with people using the forum for no other reason than to promote their book/film/script/videos - just ridicule them......nothing nasty or personal - just rip into their idea.....if they've got anything about them they'll take it as a joke, maybe hang around.....otherwise they'll just scuttle off to whence they came never to be seen again - problem solved, plus we get to have a bit of fun in the process.....

I think it's on of those inevitable situations really. Everyone is looking for connections, and that's fine, but it's a fine line between using this as a place to tell people about your work or just being ignorant of all the sharp folks that come here to chinwag and discuss a variety of subjects beyond just Mr Meadows.
You all know what I've been working on, and I've always been mindful to share the stuff that I think is relevant on this board. Of course, I throw my two-pence worth at anything that catches my eye, particularly when it comes to sharing my views and experiences as a film maker who has walked the green mile as it were.
By the very nature of how Shane became a successful film maker, this board was always going to attract those that are walking the no-budget, DIY film maker path (myself included), but I like to think that we're also fans of the guy's work too. Of course, some people are just fans, and many will get bored of the 'LOOK AT WHAT I MADE' aspect, but the good thing is there is the film maker's section for that stuff, so it's cool bananas as far as I'm concerned.
One thing I would say is that to use this forum just as a way to get a quote or feedback from Shane Meadows is a bit short-sighted. I've lost count of the good things that I've been fortunate enough to share with all you guys via this forum, and have also been able to check out the impressive stuff that everyone else has been upto. I never came here looking for a gold seal of approval from Shane, but more from all the talented and interesting folks that hover around these here parts.
If anyone wants to get a 'GIVE ME SOME LOVE SHANE' comment for their pictures, films, book, Blue Peter Tracey Island, cool. Come here, share it, and see what happens. But I would say that it's just as important (if not more so) to get some feedback from anyone else who is interested at the same time.
Believe it or not, I appreciate the respect I get for anything I've done whether your name is Shane Meadows or Joey No-one. To me, it's all the same. And I hope that this idea that as a mixed community, everyone's opinion will count on the work that is posted by others.
Tom.

My opinion, dear ond 'Nazi Me'? Any 'spam' thread - notify the admin (if that's okay Dave) via pm - delete it. No warning, no fuss. That's what I've done on some of my forums. ? "I Vaz Chust Herbey-hing hoarders" you see. Seriously for just one moment if I can be serious, I reckon that cuts out all the fuss - I'd hate to see this become a 'closed forum' where everything has to be approved prior to posting (plus it'd be a nightmare for the admin) - I've seen that kill off some forums. Maybe if one or two people get made into 'moderators' - hey I've done it... you get a few decent people who'll volunteer to help out and have the power to delete this type of sh*te... or at least 'lock' threads to stop these cheeky monkeys! Just a thought. N.

Oh dear, its like those fields you see with the massive 'No ball games' signs.
Just give them a place to play, direct them there, and if they play elsewhere then confiscate their ball. We've had a few folk come here to promote their films in the first instance, and then become part of the 'community'.
Like Tom said, the place exists for filmakers to post, and for the most part its used wisely. Just no harassing Shane or Dave.

Very true - I've just answered to a 'newby' in the film section - a great film ("Nobhead" - now that's what I like... someone who ses the opportunity to promote a film and asks for feedback - and I think this forum is excellent for that - he's def. got a fan here. Can't say i've ever sent Shane a PM, but would like the option still to be there should i desperately need to tell him something...like his greenhouse may have been broken into for example.

Shane, I missed my signing on apointment. Do I have to go back to new claims?
I was actually wondering what kind of job people ask for... I can see people asking for roles or what have you, but beyond that it seems pretty obvious you've got it covered. Unless you need a chicken-sexer? I picked that out of a careers advice booklet at school, I shit ye not.

Hey Jody, thanks for the offer, but this forum is actually hosted by a separate entity on the web. ProBoards. So I can't alter the code at all because I am not hosting the forum myself.
