No, it doesn't look like it does it? I'm excited but will Shane Meadows get any royalties from sales? My guess, devoid of any knowledge, is that a deal's been done so that Shane Meadows gets a cut? I'd hope so. If not I'm gonna steal a copy and make copies for friends. ;D

I might try and quickly sell my VHS for an extortionate amount of money before everyone finds out.
Is that wrong? ;D
By the way, I asked Mr Mark Herbert about Smalltime and Warp, and he confirmed that they tried to get clearance, but they could only get it for 2 years, and not for digital distribution or something odd. We can only imagine the amazing DVD extras that might have been (and that Shane mentioned he would like to do a while back).

I'll have to get hold of a copy without paying for it. But without stealing it because stealing is wrong. Or getting it as a gift coz that would mean it would've have to have been bought.

It's listed on Amazon now, so I've popped in into the Meadows shop.
I still can't believe they're persisting with the 18 certificate for Smalltime. What on earth is the problem. Maybe back in the early nineties the uttering of 'c**t' was an automatic 18. These days, you can definitely get away with one or two of those in a 15.. and as many F bombs as you like... that shit looking Tamara Drewe film being a prime example.

Here... anything worse than a "Damn you, sir" should have an automatic 18!!! Oh hang on... I thought I was a repressed Victorian for a sec! Perhaps it's Shane's wig that's seen to be 'graphic content' Can't wait for it to come out and then I can get shut of the one I downloaded off the BFI yonks back when it was on offer - AND it comes out on Mrs. Wife's birthday too - a joint celebration - but don't let on to her that I said that!!!

BFI press release:
Small Time / Where’s the Money Ronnie! Two films by Shane Meadows Coinciding with the release of Shane Meadows’ TV debut, This is England ’86, the BFI is making his 1996 debut feature Small Time and the short film Where’s the Money Ronnie? available on DVD for the first time. British director Shane Meadows’ (This is England, Dead Man’s Shoes) assured and impressive debut feature Small Time is a tale of petty crime in the suburbs of Nottingham. Meadows himself stars as Jumbo, leader of a ragtag band of small time crooks specialising in dog food heists and the sale of Eastern bloc trainers, empty suitcases and non-existent musical instruments. Featuring energetic handheld camera work, brilliant comic dialogue and a host of ironic film references, Small Time clearly reveals Meadows’ flair for larger-than-life characters and ability to extract accomplished, semi-improvised performances from talented non-professionals. Also included is Where’s the Money Ronnie!, Shane Meadows’ short film homage to Kurosawa’s Rashomon that explores the aftermath of a robbery. Four suspects recall their version of events in police interviews but what really happened and who has the money?
This release will be on sale with an RRP of just £12.99.
Special features:
Where’s the Money Ronnie! (1996, 12 mins) Film notes and credits
RRP: £12.99 / cat. no. BFIVD908 / cert 18 UK / 1996 / colour and black & white / English, optional subtitles for the hearing-impaired / 71 mins / aspect ratio 16:9 / region 0

Special features: Where’s the Money Ronnie! (1996, 12 mins) Film notes and credits "Film Notes & Credits" - fair enough... but I love it when they try to make stuff really stand out as a 'Special Feature' - especially when they put on 'menu' and 'scene access' - whoohoo! Seriously though, I'd've loved to see a few more bits n' bobs... maybe a few short films etc. but hey - I'll be just glad to have this on DVD at last.

Interactive menus and scene selection - now there's a generous helping of additional content.

And ye get a box to put it in... ooh... and look - you can use yon disc as a mirror!!! Excellent! I'll go off on a tangent now about these stupid ads for BT who are 'giving' freeview as standard with their box of delights - not bad eh? especially seeing that new tellies are coming equipped with the bl**dy thing 'as standard'

Is no one even slightly perturbed that no one who was involved in Small Time is likely to see a penny from the sales of this DVD?

Is no one even slightly perturbed that no one who was involved in Small Time is likely to see a penny from the sales of this DVD? It's certainly weird. I can't recall if Shane ever told the tale of how the BFI got all the rights. I can't remember it if he did.
