Is no one even slightly perturbed that no one who was involved in Small Time is likely to see a penny from the sales of this DVD? Nothing in this murky world surprises me. Shane has been ripped off and some talantless fat cat will coin it in.

Good it's getting a DVD release Shame my first watch was on Love Film online, with the complete incorrect aspect ratio The film is also available to watch in the BFI Mediateque in Cambridge Library. I assume there's one of these in london too. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this! Dead Man's Shoes, and Where's The Money Ronnie are on there too!

I saw this recently on Film4 and although it's the weakest Meadows feature film by far I couldnt help but really enjoy it. Yes it was cheaply filmed on what looks like VHS and cinematography was just point and shoot it had something to it that drew me in and I couldnt help but chuckle throughout.
Was nice to see Shane star in the film and also to hear Gav Clark doing the score. Thought the opening titles and end credits were great also.
Was no ARFRB DMS or TIE but it was good to see where Lord Meadows started out which was great to see like a lot of us film makers early stuff on here ;D

I'm looking forward to owning this on DVD. I first saw it (and Ronnie) on C4 years ago and liked it and it'll be nice to eventually own it on DVD.

I'm still not quite sure what the situation is with this, but if it is actually the case that neither Shane nor any of the cast or anybody else that work on the production will get any royalties from this, maybe we should think twice about buying it? Legally those involved in the production might not have a claim, but morally this seems dubious to me. At the very least, people should buy it through the shop on this website.

It's got some cracking lines and some great shots of Sneinton i know its not everyones cup of tea but it always makes me smile. The Fox pub that is featured in the film has now unfortunatly be knocked down.A great pub bites the dust but we can still see it thanks to Sir Shane of Nottingham.

Seeing Smalltime for the first time after seeing loads of Shane's later films must be quite odd.
Smalltime was the first Meadows films I saw! This was when 24/7 was released, but was not showing in any cinema near me.... so I popped along to the local Choices Music and Video store (those were the days) and found the VHS of Smalltime!
For me it was a stunning film! Just because it was so naturally funny, and seemed to be made by a normal un-pretentious chap. It was a revelation to me that a film could be this errr.. fresh and natural feeling. For me the story of the film is almost inconsequential, it's the dialogue and characters that I love.

I love Small Time too (check out my signature – that line made me spurt beer across the room). But I won't be buying this DVD. Not until I know for sure that at the very least Shane Meadows is getting a cut. If he ain't then I'll be content with my signed copy of the video and I'll keep a VCR tucked away for when I want to watch it. I support the BFI and I'm a member but it seems they've been nasty capitalists over this so I'll ooooo flippin protest!

I'm fine mate,The reason Small time holds fond memories for me is that the two pubs featured The Lord Nelson and The Fox were both pubs i used in my youth also that area is where my Grannies lived so i knew it fairly well. As for being in one of Sir Shane's films well i'm still waiting on the call but fear not i feel the call maybe coming sooner rather than later. After all Shane knows how to pluck out unknowns and turn them into Stars If Shane plays his cards right i could turn him into a Star. My wheels are ready to roll.

It was Dave, after seeing such powerful films as ARFRB, DMS and TIE I didn't know what to expect as I'd only ever seen a few snippets. I think its just a great little film and I imagine they all had fun making it.

Clifton I always love your posts and characters and descriptions. Get a short film written and I'll see about making it as I reckon you could write something right funny ;D I always think its great seeing somewhere you recognise and know well in a film. For example I work not far from Wells which was used in Hot Fuzz.

yes they are very perturbed by the matter of cash and royalties (the cast of smalltime) from the film, as there are a handful of them who have never seen a penny in payment or even signed a release for the film to be disributed in anyway shape or form... so now you have ur answer why smalltime will never come out on dvd, because as i said; "no release was EVER signed".. however that didnt stop shane from taking a shit load of money from certain people at the time at the BFI and channel 4 to do a final edit and to pay his actors; something he never ever did... another thing which i find highly amusing is the fact that Shane seems utterly convinced tht he wrote the script for smalltime, when i can assure you all wholeheartedly that it was all improvised and ideas from everyone about where it was gonna go and what WE were gonna do.. i am deeply saddened that given what Shane has done for other actors in his career, that he didnt do right by everyone in his breaking film; cuz afterall, thats what got him the break he needed.. leon Lammond- Bets- smalltime 1996
