If any thread is going to contain spoilers it's going to be one all about the ending.
I've labelled it ready!

Surely a spoiler warning is redundant in a thread titled "the ending?" Dave!

I guess you could say, if you wanted to be hyper-critical, that there was a bit much all-too-neat coincidence in the timing of Combo's arrival.
But it was carried off with such brilliant direction and performance that it didn't bother me. I thought it was a great ending.

I loved the ending! the rape scene was scary but you feel good when Lol gets a few knocks of the hammer in and murders the raping scum! i love the fact that combo comes back loses his mum and redeems himself by protecting Lol and taking the blame. you kind of feel bad for him...
Ep4 of tie '86 is the most powerful piece of shane's work i have seen since dead mans shoes!
i can imagine a few arseholes writing in to ch4 about the harrowing scene with lol and her dad but they were given full warning about what they would see and to be fair mad shit like that happens everyday in the world!
Good work shane! already excited about Tie '90! i know it will be funded!

I wonder if anyone will moan to OFCOM about them giving away what was going to happen.

Perhaps, but i dont think it really takes away how scary it is..kinda like if somebody pulled a gun on you, you would have the exact same reaction if they warned you they are going to pull out a gun and then did. hope that makes sense? i blabber sometimes

Absolutely gripped by last night's episode... it's not often I can say that, but it had my attention 100%! Truly harrowing the scenes with Lol and her Dad, but expertly done - it really got the tension without being too graphic, although saying that, it was certainly graphic enough to get the point across and was so well done, I can't get over it - brilliant acting there from both. As for Combo's redemption - that was amazing - especially when he took supported Lol and took the rap... I was near to tears watching that, and when he was in jail... call me soft or whatever, I'm not ashamed to say that - not much on telly (if anything these days) does that, and I doubt there's going to be anything to compare for a hell of a long time. Considering that this was a mainly humourless episode (and there's been some QUALITY scenes throughtout the series that you REALLY can use the ubiquitous 'lol' to apply to) - this for me was the best episode. If it stops here - then excellent - it's a great 'sequel' to a film that didn't necessarily need one, but works brilliantly (unlike the technically clever but ultimately 'adds nothing' sequels to 'The Matrix') - If it continues with another series - I'll be equally made up. I'm def. getting this on DVD - no question! All the best to Shane and everyone else involved - here's to the awards that are coming! Neil. I wanted Lol to take the law into her hands...I'm not ashamed to say I was egging her on to hit him during the attempted rape scene...I actually felt real anger.
I've invested a lot of my own personal time in these characters...they are all 100% believable and I found it so easy to empathise with them on most levels...young Sean is just so believable and that is all down to his ability to act and Shane Meadow's ability to get the best from his actors...I hope we see more of him in other things.
As Combo was talking to Lol the tears welled up in my eyes...I didn't fight them back for long...it was so very moving seeing his softer side...what he did for Lol was so selfless...I certainly left this series feeling better about him than I did in the film.
I don't know whether I want to see another series...if there is to be one (?) I think it is best left as it is to go down in my memory as a top notch piece of directing and acting from everyone involved...especially the Tachini clad bike gang leader...that took me back...he was so funny

Hi guys .. caught the bloody rabbit .. little sod thought it could escape me, but no ..... (I think she's aware she is going in for her neuter tomorrow so wanted to make the most of her friskiness by trying to hump her cell/cage mate as much as she could before tomorrow)
Anyhoo ..
Wow! Again .. I'll say it now Jill, poor Lol! The look on her face and her body language, as her father began to abuse her. So realistic I nearly hit the tv with the wine bottle.
Poor Combo .. didn't he look so small as he was walking between the two prison guards at the end?
Biblical ending? Retribution AND the hand of God .. aka Maradonna!
I wonder what DID happen to Combo during those three years he went missing?
I'll have so much more to say, but at the moment please bear with me, I'm on a bucket load of pain killers, sleeping pills, and Diazepam for back spasms that my concentration is zilch!

Watched last nights episode. Halfway through I was rivetted but looking forward to a few 'lighter touches' that were so apparent in episode 3. When Lols Dad started on her I found it too painful to watch and anticipating something happening when the hammer was raised by Lol,I switched the telly off for a couple of minutes. I then watched the ending and although totally unexpected I found the ending to be completely 'right'. Well done Shane! You are up there now with Alan Bleasedale. Remember Boys from the Black Stuff? (All the episodes are on You Tube)
Anyway...As I said I have just watched the last episode again and at the same point as Lol raised the hammer...I slowly shut my lappy lid and killed the sound.
Yet I have watched last weeks episode 3 or 4 times and could watch it all the way through even though I found the rape deeply disturbing.
Strange.
