Superb, absolutely superb. The whole thing. Congrats to all involved, you've made a masterpiece. Absolutely loved it.
The opening scene was brilliant. I massively empathised with Woody having been in a marginally similar situation once (I say marginally, my best friend has never had a baby with my girlfriend!!). But that scene was perfect.
I thought for a whole 30 seconds or more that Lol and her kid were dead... oh man. The stomach pump scene was full on. A great piece of editing.
Glad it was a reasonably happy ending. The scene between Lol and Woody was brilliant stuff. Sad and funny, the sort of thing Meadows does perfectly. "So how dangerous are ya out of 10?" You just don't see scenes like that anywhere else.
Loved it.

Yes, yes and yes! Top notch!
Seems to soon to try and comment.. haha still sinking in.
Did anyone else notice that in the music credits, an original composition written and performed by Mr Meadows was listed! Can't recall what the title was now. Episode 2 apparently.
Just double checked the title:
"Who Be Who Be Who Be" Written and performed by Shane Meadows

Congratulations on writing and presenting a superb TIS 88. I thoroughly enjoyed it . The way in which the characters make me feel as they explore their emotions during their own journey of life. I love the way in which the dialogue is faded out and the piano is faded in, watched in in silence, ( even stopped eating my cornflakes). Please don't leave it here, but also take care not to go down the route that Shameless did. Keep it steady and keep it real, as you have been doing. The programme has also achieved something that must be very difficult which is appeal to a wide age range. I'm 49, my daughter is 15 and my son is 19, we have all enjoyed it and we all watched it together. There are few programmes that could boast that. Joseph Gilgun and Vicky McClure, stunning performances.

I was just really in the moment and needed that laugh bit of relief, could have maybe been set up a little more so we saw it totally the way woody did though

Hey Ryd, I'm not sure that was Wrestler inspired. That shot has been used in many great films. You could say it was inspired by Pulp Fiction... or, knowing Shane, that it was inspired by Goodfellas! Can't remember that kind of shot in Made In Britain, Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas... not saying there wasn't. But yeah, I suppose it could have been inspired by any number of films! Just reminded me of The Wrestler specifically.

Dave i'm with you on that...still sinking in. Also thank you for telling me about this part of the forum, being new and a little slow with these things it might've taken a while! .. I'm not sure what i was expecting from '88 , but whatever it was it wouldnt match the reality of it, i'm true when i say i've never been so moved by anything. '86 was more for the humour for me, still the same grit, but i really feel asthough i've gotten to know the characters with this. The haunting scenes i relate to to a degree , they were difficult to watch, perhaps for everyone. But i really felt like i was in lol's mind. What a great cast. I think all three episodes have been beyond incredible & touching, but i think tonight's has topped anything i've ever seen by Shane, and being a hardcore fan that isnt said lightly. Woody's performance has thrown me completely, especially in the bath crying after joking. It's heartbreaking to watch. But i'd watch it again a million times over. Lol in the church , which brings home the realization christmas is a sad, sad time, and hits hard. Lol's visit to combo, but the best scene of all Woody and Lol in the end, stunning. I've cried more tears watching that than in the last few years of my life! And finally what an absolutely immense soundtrack. The closing song i've never heard before but fit so perfectly. I wish there was a way to compliment Shane and the cast themselves. I feel so overwhelmed by the entire thing & i cannot wait to purchase!

I was just really in the moment and needed that laugh Made me laugh out loud for sure! Didn't see it coming. Although, i will say the fact that Trev thought she was dead as well was a bit odd. Thinking about it though, was it just a reaction to the empty bed? Did Trev & Woody still think she could be alive until they got into the room. Another bit that made me laugh out loud was in Woody and Jen's scene. "Why can't you be more of a twat?" Otherwise a very well done, tender scene.

Definitely yes to both of your presumptions. No question. Family sitting round an empty bed with head in hands... means nothing else in film and TV... and real life really! Lol no doubt wanted some time to herself with her fag on, but I felt it was all a bit too set-up for the "we think she's dead.. oh she isn't" set piece. Just screamed at me as soon as Woody entered the room, and I didn't want to be right.

I wish there was a way to compliment Shane and the cast themselves. There is! Twitter! Most of them are on there. Failing that, just type up your compliments to the crew here, some are bound to read it! I also can't wait to buy it. Watch the whole thing without those pesky ads. Moreso I can't wait until 90 is released, and I can have a This Is England day and watch the film and all the series together! ;D
