yup, anthony and sonny in the kitchen is the bit that has me spitting with anger the most (if such a reaction exists, does it?) good thread. also, provides a chance to bring up this point (not sure if this point comes from my blain, or from something i read, or from something someone said within this forum, but either way its an interesting one): where do these shocking black and white images come from? sure, they're flashbacks, but who's perception are we seeing these events from? from sonny and the lads, remembering the bad things they once did? OR perhaps, even more compellingly, from Richard? wouldn't it be interesting if these events never actually happened? if, in fact, richard was torturing himself with the thought of what might have happened. it changes the whole complexion of the film... watch the film again with this idea in mind and it makes for interesting viewing Blimey... Never thought about that! Gotta watch the film again form this perspective... Very interesting point indeed!

I had wondered the same thing but discounted the theory because of Richard's confrontation with Mark and Mark's confession.
There's also the behaviour of Sonny's gang as they near their respective dooms. They are all totally riddled with guilt and fear. Not the actions of people who are innocent.
The flash back scenes could be Richard's imaginings of a version of events that actually happened...

Watched it today, and there were several moments that really shocked me, and the image of them is still quite upsetting now.
*SPOILER DEAD MAN'S SHOES*
The final torturing of Anthony is horrific, it fills me with anger how this could be done to someone so defensless, and the fact that it can be related to real life events is even more upsetting and aggrivating to me. Seeing Anthony hanging made my stomach turn, and it proved a very hard scene for me to watch. Pretty much instantly after these, realising how Richard's conversations with Anthony were all in his head, and that Anthony was a figure from past shocked me. But in a way that I said "Wow" out loud, it put an absolutely genius spin on the film.
*SPOILER ENDS*
Interesting point Anonlytwin! Wow, thinking of it that way made the film seem less disturbing to me, making it easier to think about, but a whole lot less effective in my opinion. To me, although I find it incredibly difficult to watch scenes of such nature, they give the film such an effect, that it is still sitting inside me, which in my opinion, makes it a bloody good film.

Welcome to the site jr. DMS is a great film. Remember to insert a spoiler if you give away a plot point or twist!

Yeah, it's always wise to mention any spoilers, but this particular thread is called "Most shocking thing in DMS" so if you were someone who didn't want to ruin the film before watching it, you probably shouldn't take a look at this. ;D

I've just used the most recent 20 posts feature for the first time, and come across a post discussing the most recent 20 posts feature! My first port of call is always "The Most Recent 20 Posts" I just go by the little blue dots that show up next to the threads featuring new posts since my last sign in.
