Read The Dice Man years ago, great read, don't read the sequal though it's shite! Re-read a load of Sherlock Holmes stories recently great stuff, classic infact! Also read another Christopher Priest novel The Glamour which is a brilliant novel of invisible Love. Currently reading The Vesuvius Club by Mark Gatiss (The League Of Gentlemen) a romp set in edwardian days about the adventures of Lucifer Box. Once that is finished i'm going to read WATCHMEN I read it anually (13th read this year!), the KING of comic books and some of the best writting in any form of the last century.

Well I put down If I Die in a Combat Zone.. no real reason, I'll go back to it.
Started Marabou Stork Nightmare and I'm really really enjoying it.
I also got The Acid House by Irvine Welsh aswell, and I picked up Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr today.

Marabou Stork Nightmares is quality. Easily in my top five books of all time. I was about your age when I first read it, Hyde - it had a real impact.
You can't go wrong with old Cubby either. I'm reading the last complete book he wrote before he died called Waiting Period. Like a modern day Taxi Driver... surprised it got published really considering the 9/11 panic alarm in America. Dangerous stuff!

Just finished Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris, which im sure you all know is the prequel to the hannibal lecter books.a little bit obvious but staggeringly well written, the prose ,on occasion is just stunning.i would recomend it to fans, and there is some nice in jokes, tho not many, its not especially funny......

For an interesting counterpoint to Marabou Stork Nightmares try "The Bridge" by Iain Banks. Similar premise, I think I prefer the Banks version.
Also check out "The Magus" by John Fowles.
I started "We Need to talk about Kevin" but didn't get round to finishing it, which is rather unusual for me.
I read The Red Riding Quartet - four books by David Peace about the West Yorks Police force - on holiday.. brutal stories indeed.
Also check out a nice little book I found named "The Highest Tide" - about a boy who discovers a giant squid washed up on his local beach.

For the uncultured amongst us (that includes me)... I've just started reading Derren Brown's book which I got for Christmas. Looking forward to it... I'll soon be doing my own variation on the Russian Roulette stunt! Hoorah!

Ey up TT...get a book mark kidda!!! xx
Hi Rich K, glad yr back safe!! I read David Peace's 1980 about a month ago, black is how dark that is. Brilliant though, could not put it down. Peter Hunter is a great character, the end annoyed me. Got a little confused with all the names etc.., but ill read it again at some point soon. I think ill read the others too. Im curious. I knew all the areas, its near me. Its such an interesting story, as its true, and so tragic.
Im reading 'conversations with god' at the moment its a fantastic book. Its about Self understanding, not religious, although.. its about a guy who is at rock bottom and writes a letter to god, asking him why he is in the lowest place anyone could possibly be?? astonishingly enough he is answered, but with complete honesty, its about truth, yr conscience etc etc. Very uplifting if yr feeling a little dissapointed with life or need some answers. It reminds us who causes the problems in the first place. Ourselves.
My reiki masseur reccommended it to me.
Gonna try to read alot more this year, ill check out the posts to get some ideas from you guys.
jo xx

Picked up The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis and The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien..
Those bastards at waterstones have SALE HALF PRICE outside the shop.. I only went in for Rules of Atraction the other was a bonus because they where half price but sure enough the wankers charged me full price haha so dont make the mistake I did... not all books are half price.

Yeah I bet it is from what I read of If I Die in a Combat Zone I really like his style of writing and well... war books tend to be something else... ya know? I like books about.. people... and war books are just.. people.. trying to survive and kill. Large have you ever read If I Die? I'm sure you'd like it. and I forgot that short story writers name so if you could refresh my memory
