The Horrors - Primary Colours. Like most people i was ready to dismiss this new album as more self indulgent over hyped crap however it is very good and gets better with every listen. The influences couldn't be more obvious MBV, Jesus Mary Chain, Cure, Joy Division but this is not a bad thing. The start of a shoegazing revival? I hope so. The last tune, Sea Within A Sea is a stormer* isn't it? * No pun intended, natch.

So I bought Thrusday's new album "Common Existence" cos they're playing Reading. Glad I did! It's bloody excellent. It is certainly a grower... the best sort. First couple of listens I was only a little impressed. But now the songs are really growing on me. Its certainly different (better? not sure yet) to the last album. It sounds more raw, with more subtle and effective use of electric stuff. One track uses Violin to awesome effect. Vocals are less screamy, and more shouty if you get me. I prefer that. Its more epic. As He Climbed The Dark Mountain from the split ep is on there. Great track, but not the best. Can't wait to see them now! I think they sort of clash with Prodigy though annoying.

I've still not got into that album. Just not listened to it much yet. Thursday or Prodigy. Well, if it was me it would be Thursday without question. I saw Prodigy at Reading once.... one of the most underwhelming things I've seen live. Just looking at Liam behind his kit nodding about... and the other ones prancing about. Yawn. You get that electric guitar bloke on some tracks if you're lucky, but still.... not impressive. You might as well listen to the CDs considering it's all electronic (mostly). They're nothing much to watch at all.... especially compared to full performing band like Thursday!

I think Thursday will end shortly after Prodigy have started anyway. So it should be okay.

The new Jason Lytle solo album (Yours Truly, The Commuter). For those who don't know he was the genius behind Grandaddy, and continues to be a genius. Simple compositions but interesting arrangements.

Simple compositions but interesting arrangements. Blimey didn't know about this will have to check it out 'Sophtware Slump' is definitely in my top three. Currently listening to 'In Ghost Colours' by Cut Copy, cracking album a real grower and a fun listen.

After listening to some remixes I decided to investigate Adam Freeland's back catalogue. He's got one proper album which is bloody nice. Shame HMV just had his remix tosh. Nowt wrong with remixes I just prefer DJs to do their own thing, as it usually results in canny efforts.
It's been six years, Adam. Give it another bash.

Oooo! I've found another nice sounding prog noise metal band that I will be investigating further! Thrashy and grindy with lots of odd influences thrown in too. Nice. They are called: iwrestledabearonce Here's a brilliant track of there's called: Tastes Like Kevin Bacon Not many people's cup-of-tea. They're a bit like Rolo Tomassi for a couple of reasons... but then you already knew that.

Ha ha, they're pretty good!
Been mostly listening to the Mars Volta's new album: Octahedron. Brilliant. Most chilled of the albums yet. Possibly the best yet. Can't stop listening to it... never boring, not overlong, never any silly tangents. Brilliant. The one and only heavy track is available for download for free form amazon at the moment. Well worth a download. Called Cotopaxi.
Before this: Bjork - Homogenic excellent as always. Bachelorette is awesome.

First play of Biffy Clyro's new song That Golden Rule was on Radio One the other day.... thankfully people have put it on YouTube because I never listen to that radio one tat.
Sound's not perfect, but pretty good.
Well, I'm enjoying that. I particularly like the long ending mallarkey with their cheeky time messings.

TV on the Radio - Dear Science.
I love it. Initially I thought it was just OK, not all that easy to get into. But eventually the hooks were firmly embedded in my brain, and I can't stop listening now.
And also The Lemonheads - Varshons, which is a covers album.

Recently I have been mostly listening to the hilariously polar opposite, Charlotte Hatherley and Cannibal Corpse! I couldn't get into the Hatherley's second album for ages, there just wasn't much on it that struck me. But recently it's all starting to twig! It's less accessible than her first album for sure. I really like the odd chord progressions and sounds in most of her stuff. Really like the last track called Siberia Wasn't someone on this site looking for a location for Hatherley video a while back? What happened there? I recall them looking for a big wall they could mess up with paint and glitter. Not seen a video featuring that yet! But I've also been getting into death metal legends (and one of the early pioneers of the genre) Cannibal Corpse! I was always put off them by all the stupid gore artwork and stupid violent, horror based song titles and lyrics. Just seemed completely dumb. A friend of mine was always singing their praises, but I turned my nose up at the thought of such a thing.... I couldn't be seen liking such overtly gore-laden nonsense. Well, now I'm older, I no longer give a hoot what other metal snobs may think! ;D Basically they like horror films and so that's what they try to replicate in their tracks.... and as is often the case, they are all very grounded, down-to-earth and nice chaps. And being interested in metal musicianship, these guys are really interesting. To the uninitiated, it can sound like an incessant and pounding sludge of sound. Let's have a peek at studio version of their splendidly named track, Frantic Disembowelment.... without the second guitar and without the vocals too, cos that will put everyone right off.... this video eases you into the world of death metal without the guttural sounds of a reverberating diaphragm!
