Lovely stuff. BTBAM's music can take a while to 'click' but I find it most rewarding when it does. It's a bit too metal on the surface for most people, so they are not inclined to persevere with it. Yes, you must get CDs all round! Strangely, I might even recommend that you buy the live CD first because it comes with a bonus DVD. The amazing thing is, this isn't the usual 'bonus' DVD that often comes with an album. You know, they don't usually feature much of interest at all. The Colors live bonus DVD is the main reason to buy the live CD! It's probably my favourite music DVD ever. It really could have (and probably should have) been released with the DVD as the main item... with bonus CD. Basically, it's the live CD recording professionally filmed to a very high standard... featuring many lovely close-ups of the skilled musicianship. But not only that, they also did a second live set on the same night of songs from theisr back catalogue, chosen by fans. Amazing value! That's about another 8 or 9 songs (not on the CD). ...and usually for only about 7 or 8 quids! www.amazon.co.uk/Colors-Live-Between-Buried-Me/dp/B001ET8GNY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1269524931&sr=8-1Buy that! Sounds awesome, but me thinks I need to get into their back catalogue a bit more before I purchase this! Not necessarily. If you can crack Colors, then their back catalogue will be a breeze! Watching them play Colors live really helps to digest it. Colors only really clicked with me fully after I saw them live in Bristol. Their latest album, The Great Misdirect is as sprawling in scope as Colors. If you can grasp Colors first, I think you will enjoy the back catalogue more.

Cool. I played the heck out of my Big Star CDs this past week (RIP Alex ), and now I'm on a total Replacements kick. (I'm streaming Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash at the moment -- I'm considering buying it on CD eventually...)

65daysofstatic - We Were Exploding Anyway Superb. Can't wait to see them live next week! If you like rock/electric/dance or all of those combined check out www.65daysofstatic.com/ and listen to the tracks on the player there. Might be enough to hook you. This album also has a great track with sound samples from Robert Smith (65 toured with the Cure last year) which lead me to listen to... The Cure - Wish Also listening to Between The Buried and Me's Colors still. One of the best albums i've ever heard.

She & Him:
"In The Sun" (from the 2010 album Volume Two)
The Gaslight Anthem:

Oh, you just reminded me of them, and it seems they have a new album called Cosmology from last year that I didn't know about. Now listening on Spotify... also suberb! I remember when I first heard about them they were still taking their A-Levels and had to stop touring to do revision.

I remember when I first heard about them they were still taking their A-Levels and had to stop touring to do revision. Cosmology is great too, although not quite as good. The title track is phenomenal. I saw them live before I'd even heard of them. They started and we were far away from stage so couldn't see. Hear the shouting and assume it's a chap. We get closer and there's the lead singer! A girl! She's awesome. Definitely part of what makes the band so good, the contrast of vocals.
