Been listening to one of Omar Rodriguez Lopez's (Guitarist, The Mars Volta) solo albums. "Solar Gambling" its called. It's really rather fantastic. Those who dislike The Mars Voltas meandering, long tracks need not fear, this is all pretty concise. It's also quite chilled, with beautiful vocals. Apparently this is his 13th album! Mental.

The Cars' reunion album, Move Like This. Ben Orr's vocals are certainly missed, but otherwise this doesn't sound all that different from the band's punchy New Wave/Power Pop sound of the '70s and '80s...

The album World Play and the EP Scratch Marchin' by Kormac. Just, wow. Best remixed dance/jazz/charleston since Parov Stelar.
Also, for an individual track, I would simply urge you to buy "hipbrass" by Frohlocker. Best 79p I've spent in a while.

Despite the intial guff on at Glastonbury, I've managed to digest Morissey, Chemical Brothers, Aloe Blacc, Primal Scream, Jimmy Cliff, Janelle Monae and ... err... U2's sets. Yeah, I'll take the hit for that last one. All the hits.
Shame on the beeb for not having owt of Pulp's set, though. Picked up Different Class the other day, along with a load of other Britpop.

Picked up Different Class the other day, along with a load of other Britpop. Among all the Oasis v Blur idiocy, did everybody forget Pulp were the best of the lot?

It's taken me a while to realise that's probably true. I want to commit an act of revenge to I Spy. Trying to remember what else I caught up with over the weekend. The Go! Team were typically okay. The frontlass is not a sucker MC and the Asian lass is just terrifying when she gets on the mic.
I now like Everything Everything a lot more than I should.

Loads and loads and loads of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They're one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITES and right now I appear to be gripped by my proverbial balls by "Slow Riot..." in particular.

Like Wu Tang Clan? Like Fugazi? www.wugazi.comOh, by the way, I did cave in and get Everything Everything's Man Alive. Turns out it is bloody good synth pop. £3 for HMV, which gave me the overheads to finally grab a copy of Teenage Fanclub's Bandwagonesque. I am now complete. And listening to a load of Sub Sub.

The new They Might Be Giants album, Join Us -- it officially comes out tomorrow (I pre-ordered it on CD from Amazon), but it started streaming at Spinner.com today. I doubt it'll win the Johns any new fans, but I am really, really enjoying it.

Animals As Leaders... I like to call myself a fan of their work, but I seem to have missed a new song of theirs which they have been performing live recently (and therefore all over YouTube). It's from their forthcoming new album in the next few months.
What a composition!
