Once this is England is complete in the coming few weeks, I will begin workshopping for my next film. What would you most like to me direct? Any of these or something else (Mr and Mrs)?

I went for Sweet Maria, simply because I crave another Meadows/Considine fix. Though I'd welcome anything else, without reservation (unless you look to start casting ex-Big Brother housemates, that is). I know I've mentioned it on other threads, but is there any likelyhood of us seeing a Once Upon A Time In The Midlands re-edit, Shane? It's been a while since you mentioned it and many of us are hyped at the possibility of seeing a new version of the flick, mate

Wow there is certainly a fair amount of interesting ideas there to choose from Shane. I have read before the Sweet Maria idea which sounds really good and like Comp said a Meadows/Considine pairing again would be absolutely awesome, also looking at the films above Mary could be a very interesting film idea and then there is the king of the gypsys film which would be awesome again.
I'm sure whichever project you choose to make it will have the Meadows magic and again be a classic film for the british film industry. :-)

I'd go for Sweet Maria - I'd love to see someone make a really good film about life on site (as I know you could) without it turning into a either a cack-handed cliché or a load of mullets and Geordies Plus I'd love to see an out-and-out Meadows/Considine comedy! Failing that, I've got an idea for a film. It's called Bananaman Begins, and it's about a bloke who gets banned from the Co-Op for hooning it down the fruit aisle in a suped-up excavator. John Cleese is in talks to play The Man From Del Monte.

Looking back over the list of projects, couldn’t help but notice what could be your unofficial ‘biblical trilogy’ – Jesus, Mary and Joseph! LOL You could follow these with For God’s Sake Must say though, Shane – Jacob’s Ladder and The Offence are great films. The Offence is such an underrated film – Connery’s performance in it is flawless and I would go as far as to say his best. Probably. I must admit, Sawnoff sounds interesting, too _ I’d love to see you try your hand at a Brit Crime flick and it’d be a great opportunity for you to show a certain popstar’s house-husband how it’s done. May I suggest that all the coppers have big ‘taches and drive Ford Granadas?

I'm with you on 'The Offence'. Sean Conz best performance bar none. I'm amazed this film doesn't get more credit. I just wish they'd bring 'The Hill' out on DVD and I'd be a happy man. Luckily for me, It was on Sky a few weeks ago and I've got it saved on me Sky+ HD!

Luckily for me, It was on Sky a few weeks ago and I've got it saved on me Sky+ HD! The Hill is a really weird one - for such a well-thought-of film, starring a huge star and directed by someone that's considered to be an important filmmaker, it's mistifying that it remains unavailable on DVD - Warner (who own all the old MGM movies) have no plans to release it anytime soon, neither...

Rather boringly, I have also gone for Sweet Maria. I think it will be good to have a complete shift of tone after Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England (although, I have no real idea what This Is England will be like yet! haha). Sweet Maria could be a great one to get some big exposure too without having to sod off to Hollywood and make Home Alone The Beginning. Builders! You should get Sean Lock onboard... he was a builder (although it did give him skin cancer, so he may not be keen to revisit that time ), and in my opinion, his acting is pretty great in 15 Storeys High.... I'm sure Perry Benson will get you touch with him (haha I can dream). Benedict Wong is great too! Fuddled always intrigues me. Do you reckon you have the clout with financiers to pull off a big budget fantasy? Green screens and CGI ahoy in a Shane Meadows film! I can only imagine! I can see Sawnoff being brilliant if Smalltimeesque as described, but you can see it now... the marketing would go mad to pull in the Guy Ritchie punters and could possibly turn off the punters who would be more likely to enjoy it.

What a random list of ideas! Great - how about a Meadows mini-series?
Or a holy trilogy like Comp said - would you stick to the source material in the bible but relocate it to the Midlands? Now that is an idea!

I voted for Sweet Maria because as Comp said, Paddy and Shane make a cracking film together. But I think you would do a great job making the King of the gypsies.

I've voted for Sweet Maria, for reasons given above - I was gutted when I heard it was off. If it is this one you go with, Shane, you should definitely consider Richard Ridings for a role (if you don't believe me, ask Toby Kebbell!) as one of the lads on the site.
