The more i think about it king of the gypsies would be amazing, if Shane could get hold of the cash and get hold of all, and i mean all of the great talent we have in britain we could have a film to blow those fancy pants yanks all to hell.

I went away and thought about this, and came to the decision to vote for King of the Gypsies. I read about Bartley Gorman, his past troubles etc and his rise to become king of the gypsies. To do a portrayal of gypsie life that isn't as 'Guy Richie'fied as in Snatch would also be very interesting, kind of Rocky with white vans and asphalting, hoho. He sounds like an amazing character aswell, looks a bit like the (Robson and) Jerome(?) bloke, the blonde one with the flat nose who hasn't had much work since unchained melody. I can help with casting if needed Shane, im sure Mr Jerome would be free. Also this would be another film set in the midlands, which is nice.
Edit: Ahh.. mydeadpuppydog's love for Gary Stretch has made me realise, with a bit of make up, he could pass for Gorman?!

Right Everyone, i am new and very shy, and respecting my peers makes me cower like a puppy..but a cast member for This is England suggested this site, and i figure anyone who likes Romeo Brass and DMS's is good by me, so hello and you all have excellent taste..i think you should film Alan Warners The Sopranos, Shane, its an awesome book....

i voted for king of the gypsies, would love to see this made shane, such an awesome film it would be.

I think all these ideas sound good but how about this one? A friend of mine, Charlie Williams, has written three black comedy crime novels set in a small shit town (Deadfolk, Fags & Lager and King of the Road- known collectively as the Mangel trilogy). Apparently somebody was supposed to get these to you as you'd obviously be the number one choice for adapting them. I don't know if you're aware of this or even if you'd be interested in working with someone else's material. But it would be great! He's given us one of his short stories to make into a short film next year. I must admit I'd never been that keen on working with someone else's script before but this stuff is brilliant! Obviously we don't have the budget or resources to do the novels justice, but Shane Meadows adapting them would be incredible! It must be King of the Gypsies as I don't have any other Boxing pics in my locker. But going by current trends, I will need to make freinds with Vin Diesel and trim my 9 million budget a likkle bit if we're gonna get that baby going anytime soon!

Hmmm. Well, I'm sure you could get the budget down. You did a great job with DMS on so little. King Of The Gypsies would be a great film to do - bare knuckle boxing always gets the meathead treatment so if you applied the deft touch you used on 24/7 you'd get a great character piece. There's a story to be told if it's still floating in your noggin.
