Bugger! I had a bit of work to finish off last night, so I decided to tape the show and watch it today, without having my mind half on other things. Haven't used my VCR for yonks-should have known better. It recorded but it's pretty much unwatchable. How f*cking, f*ckity, f*cked is that!! Been looking forward to the show for weeks too

i enjoyed the show but i felt it was a real shame they just glossed over once upon a time i know a lot of people kind of think of it as the bastard child of shanes movies, personally i really like the film, and if there are those who wish to see it as a bit of a failure fair enough but you can learn more from your failures than from your successes, i really hate the reaction that film got since it was seen as a big step up for him at the time and it seems he got so discouraged and battered by it, it makes me think of the reaction to night of the hunter making charles laughton decide to not direct again, going back to making small budget films proved to be great, giving us all two more amazing movies but the idea of shane getting a bigger budget to play with really excites me, shane talking about making king of the gypsies at the end of the show was amazing my anticipation for a movie that may never get made is painful, it's hurting me too much my brothers

as i said in my other post, i'm glad they didn't say much about OUATIM because I've heard a lot about it already. It's certainly not because i hate the film, because i don't, i actually love the film, i think it's great! (as i have said many times on this forum) and i agree with what you say quixote.
Basically i dont want what i said to be perceived the wrong way, i just meant i'd rather hear about other things, because i've heard shane speak about OUATITM before, and it was all very interesting, but its just nice to hear something new.

Great show! A nice meaty interview with lots of new insights into why Shane is doing what he's doing. Like his early artistic promise. Always wondered about his natural talents.
Horrible horrible DMS spoiler! I feel a little bit sorry for anyone who saw the show who has not seen DMS.
One particular comment by the producer guy who spotted Shane's early promise in Where's The Money Ronnie had me nodding in exuberant agreement. He said something about the way the frames were composed. I thought much the same thing watching DMS for the first time, the slow realisation that I was experiencing something special. Triggering feelings in me that are triggered by films like Once Upon A Time In The West.

First and foremost, as a new member, Hello All.
I saw the second half of the South Bank Show last night, don't normally watch it but i couldn't sleep. Had never heard of Shane Meadows before but some of his material looks pretty damn good. Been scouring the web this evening and he has some crackin reviews for his work. Am most probably goin to purchase Dead Man's Shoes which looked fantastic, and would very much like to see This Is England however it doesn't appear to be on at any of my local cinemas so it could be a long wait for a DVD release. Which of Shanes' other films would you guys consider must-see?
Once again, hello all!

Which of Shanes' other films would you guys consider must-see? Once again, hello all! Hi CreepingTom... Obviously most of us are pretty biased on here, but I genuinely believe that Shane has never made a bad film. This is my 'order of priority' list for you! haha !) Dead Man's Shoes 2) A Room For Romeo Brass 3) Smalltime (although it's deleted at the moment... only on second hand VHS at the moment) 4) Twentyfour Seven 5) Once Upon a Time in the Midlands (universally seen as Shane's least good film.. haha. It doesn't have the genuine soul of his other films, but it's still a fun little film).

If you missed the South Bank Show featuring Shane Meadows, I have a link to a windows media file of the show. Please send me a private message if you are interested. It's 182MB in size so it's best downloaded with a broadband connection.

Brilliant show loads of stuff I never knew before in there and I liked the fact that they showed different bits and pieces of Shanes work. I actually got paid to watch ARFRB yesterday as watched it at work can't get better than that (unless your the projectionist on TIE aye Dave)
