Last week’s box office figures have just been published. While THIS IS ENGLAND only made the number 11 spot, it had the second highest screen average in the chart (after the Bollywood flick TA RA RUM PUM) and beat the number one film by almost 33%. The film was only released on a meagre 62 screens – so with such strong takings per screen, will Optimum roll it out on more next week?

That is great. Hopefully more of the money grabbing multiplexes will have taken interest now.
I know it's opening in Bath this Friday, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't scheduled to be shown at all. I reckon they saw the weekend takings! I'm talking about a small independent cinema though, not a multiplex.

SPIDER-MAN 3 is out this weekend, this means many multiplexes will be showing the film on two or three screens, giving little space to anything else, sadly. A mate of mine is a projectionist at a 9 screen cinema in Burnley and he's running Spidey on 3 screens.
Funny, because when multiplexes were being hyped back in the day, their owners were selling the idea on the pretence that they'd be able to offer a wider variety of films...

Oh yeah... good point about Spiderman 3. Outrageous!
It's a shame that This Is England didn't hit the number 10 spot because it's the top ten that people always read about.

It still baffles me that the company sat on the flick for more than six months and then unleashed it in the same week as St George’s day – I was expecting a much bigger release, especially as the film had won numerous awards and steeped in critical acclaim

Spidermans excellent, dont use the webbed wonder as a scapegoat!
Some good stats there Comp. 62 screens, mental.
Id imagine the film will reap the rewards on the DVD release?
I was reading about a band called The Crimea the other day, they are giving their new album away on download for free. In the hope gig ticket sales/bookings will increase, personally I think its an excellent idea.

you have to believe in the hero inside you. Or as Heather Smalls once said, "you've got to search for the hero inside of you..."
