I have for the first time had the phone call I thought I may never get. It usually goes something like this:
"Hi, It's Shane here, How did we do over the weekend? Are we holding onto our screens"
And the reply usually goes a bit like this:
(Akward pause first) "Errmm, Well it seems the good weather combined with the release of Terbinwonker 3 has damaged a lot of films this weekend blah, blah, and we're losing a few screens etc etc"
But blow me down if I didn't Ring optimum the other day and got put straight through to the boss who told me that not only has the film kept it's screens but it is going out on another 62 prints (we only started on 60 odd!) as well as the ones that are already out there. The figures are apparently mind blowingly good for the size of release and in the first weekend we have taken more than Dead Mans Shoes took in it's entire run. It seems that if it carries on like this that we may have our first millionaire, if that happens, it will have grossed more than everything else I have made put together.
The press TV and radio coverage we have received had played a big part, also the success of DMS on DVD has seen my work get out to a wider audience than anything before. All of that combined with the growth of this website and it's loyal members old and new have really given TIE the best possible chance of success and I am so happy to say that for once it is really paying off. If it continues to find it's audience in the cinemas and then on DVD, King of the Gypsies (the way I want to make it) could finally happen.
Many thanks Maniacs!

Congratulations again Shane. Everybody I know who's new to your films and has seen TIE, loves it. My daughter works P/T in a multiplex in Edinburgh and she says that 800 people saw the film over just a couple of days and the response was overwhelmingly positive. If this also means that those same people will now seek out your earlier films (likely) then you'll finally be able to put to bed the memories of all those 'phone conversations!

Great news!
Being on the cinema front-line myself, I have been well chuffed with how busy This Is England has been. It's third week starts tomorrow, and we're still packing em in. We were supposed to move it down to one of our smaller screens from tomorrow, but now we're keeping it in our main one! Hoorah!
Hope the King of Gypsies is confirmed soon!

Congratulations! You so deserve this commercial success and wider recognition. It's in the top 10 UK films now too! Raaaaay!! Nice one! I reckon this film still has some momentum to gather yet. The first week it was number 11 wasn't it.... now it's number 9 (going by the IMDB). It's about time the general public were introduced to great independent film-making. With TIE in the top ten, even more 'regular joes' will take interest.
