Apologies if I've missed something-quite a long thread now-but does anybody know when exactly in September this will air? C4 website only advertises the schedule a week in advance. I've got to go away for a few days mid-September and I'm seriously worried I'll miss an episode Edit: O.K found it-week beginning 6/09/ Still worried I'll miss the second one A few people on Twitter reckon it's on the 7th of September, but I've not seen any confirmation of this. Hopefully it will be on 4OD (Channel 4's version of the iPlayer). I'm sure Jack Thorne or Tom Harper confirmed this on Twitter! @jackthorne News just in -This Is England ep1 will air 7th September Channel 4 10pm. There may be a few adverts announcing this. Or not. 1:12 PM Aug 20th via web

Yes, just googled it with 7/9 date and it threw up the Warp Films site-reliable I would have thought. Think I'll be back. Phew! Thanks.

Hot off the Twitter:
Edinburgh Q&A Shane says he plans (or would like) to do This Is England '90 set amongst the whole rave culture.
Also, about the state of TV. "'My Family' makes me want to fucking hang myself"
haha, that must be why I've never watched it.

Hi, I'm a new member making my first post but a longtime admirer of Mr Meadows' work. I caught the first episode of This Is England '86 at a preview screening in Edinburgh (as part of the TV Festival) and I must say it's absolutely brilliant. A totally corking start to what promises to be a great series. I love This Is England and I had my reservations about the transfer to the small screen but the first episode blew them all away. I can't wait for it to hit the airwaves and go down a storm!

I don't know whether anyone else has seen any, but I went into town today (B'ham) and with in about 4 bus stops I saw 3 billboards plastered with the faces of the super duper cast! I am rather excited, to say the least - in fact, it is rather sad! I have been telling everyone about it, and even informed my friend who was sitting next to me on the bus. She asked the ultimate question, which started me off! She went, oooh! what's that about? Of course, I held back with the response I said something like: watch it, it looks absolutely amazing and if the film's anything to go by, it'll be brilliant (even though it's not exactly based on the events of the film!) I am really looking forward to this and I am eagerly anticipating the first episode. Even counting down the days ;D

C4 are promoting the show really hard-expecting a lot of traffick on the forum next week!

Please tell me the comic genius who played the main bully has a recurring role! Yeah, I'm pretty sure he does. You can see him in brief flashes in the latest trailer for the series. I agree, he is brilliant... whoever he is... I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. My favourite comedy moment by a mile was him (is his name Flip) and Iggy pondering the 'weirdness' of the rooms decor and ornaments... "..but what's really weird... is who's gonna be sitting in that?" Biggest laugh for me that! ;D Really enjoyed this opening episode. Loved the use of the deleted scenes at the beginning! It's set up numerous conflicts and relationship entanglements, and I can't wait to see how things develop. One thing I was hoping for was some kind of brief explanation as to how Banjo has become such a mild mannered gent hanging round with the gang. The last we saw of him in the original film (before Combo goes apeshit) is him being totally vile and despicable.

Yes, Flip is in future episodes! The actor's Perry Fitzpatrick.
I wondered that about Banjo as well, Dave.

Please tell me the comic genius who played the main bully has a recurring role! Agreed. The scene where he recruits Shaun is a blinder. Does anyone know who directed this first part of TIE '86? I heard that Shane wasn't directing all the episodes, just one, and I've got to be honest, this first one didn't feel like his work and was the first thing I've ever seen from Shane (aside from the Shaun recruiting scene, as mentioned above) that I didn't feel was glowing and superb. Shane is someone whose compassion for and sensitivity to the human condition always translates into his work, but here I felt it didn't. Also there were no credits at the end so we could see who the director was, and the programme was presented as "From Shane Meadows". I didn't think the writing was anywhere near as strong as Shane's films either, but I don't know anything about the writing / directing process that was going on behind the scenes. Whatever, this hasn't diminished my belief that Shane is one of the greatest filmmakers in Britain, and if he's shared writing and directing jobs on this series to spend time with his young family then he's also up there with the greatest dads in Britain.
