Well! what can one say about last nights episode?. Incredibly well acted, so much so, the rape seen let one feeling personally abused and wrecked by the end of it; I do however, think it went on far too long and that was the issue, it almost became gratuitous. I spent 15 years working with sex offenders and can honestly say; last nights episode would have got them licking their lips. The majority of those who watched it ARE able to put it into the context it was meant , but for a minority, ie. sex offenders, those less experienced young people or even those who are unlucky enough NOT to have someone to discuss this episode and the emotions that go with it, could have a very distorted idea of sexual abuse. Again, it was not so much the topic but the "over-kill" of the scenes; some times Life Imitating Art is not always a good thing.

Most of my feelings have alrwady been conveyed by people in previous posts. All I can say is this had been a fantastic series. Really something British TV has been yerning for recently. A million miles away from the flashes and bangs of recent so-called realism. I can't prasie Shane and team highly enough.
I justed wanted to ask if anyone else thinks Smell is the hero of this series? I think she is amazing as a character! She is like the calm little centre of the storm that the more troubled characters swirl round. You would hardly know she is there but to facilitate the well being of those around her. She basically saved Shaun in episode 3. I would love to see her back story developed.

I think you need to stop patronising the audience, we're/they're not all mindless idiots... We are capable of intelligent thought. Secondly, how does it even translate that this could give a skewered version of sexual abuse? It's accurate and shocking, which is the intended vision. It conveys the abject atrocities of sexual/child abuse superbly, not merely through the direct rape/abuse but the way in which fear is used to dominate the victim (trev)... The way in which the vibrations and shockwaves caused by such an event can cause such suffering and pain (ie Lol)

im not sure what was more brutal, last nights rape scene or combo beating milky? shane is a master of suspense!
also i love the entrance of combo, only in this scene could he enter and be welcomed back into the story. sean was right though, he did have the wrong house!

Last night's episode was very heavy, with the rape scene and all. I was watching it with someone who'd been through a similar thing which made it even harder to watch.
It seemed necessary to an extent but it was very hard to watch; I think if anyone by Meadows had tackled the subject or rape it may not have worked right. This felt very real and I'm yet to decide if that's a good or a bad thing.
As for the rest of it, I really enjoyed it - I thought it was a bit daft Lol going with Milky a second time but this episode really showed what's going on with her character and it makes a lot more sense. I feel extremely sorry for Woody but that goes without saying.
(The small Ian Brown cameo was great as well)

Smell is hilarious ("do you want to suck me tits?" was by far the best line in 'TiE' - even beating Turgoose's glorious "look at 'em - they're FUCKING MASSIVE!"). And yeah, she has a weird Zen quality. I think it's that monotone voice of hers. Very calmingzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hello! New to the site.. Have to say YES I agree Smell is fantastic and is the necessary voice of reason and calm in the center.. Lol is epic in the series and it's really great to see her character develop, even if she is in a dark hole at the moment.. In fact it's great to see all of the characters breathe and grow in the series.. I'm so excited now to see what Combo has to offer.. Everything about This is England, series and film is so real.. attention is detail whether it's costumes, set design whatever it really leaves you with that nostalgic feeling from the 80's the grim, bleak Thatcher-esque greyness.. Once again Shane Meadows has hit the nail on the head.. The man is amazing at capturing suspense and emotion.. I was left stunned at the end of this weeks episode.. Still feel sick to the pit of my stomach.. It only dawned on me that Shane did not direct the first two episodes which (no offense here btw) Left me wondering a bit.. The third ep hit me square in the face and I felt like YES NOW WE ARE BACK! I just don't want this to end!!!!!

Revelations, Chapter 3.
And lo, Shane's great big thumb did descend from heaven and putteth his thumbprint on This is England '86, and the cherubs rejoiced and the angels sang in divine chorus for the god of British filmmaking was upon them once again.
Hallefuckingluja.

My sister in law has been dealing with troubles of this kind of nature for the past few years; I won't go into any specifics but if she had seen that episode tonight, in all probability every ounce of effort everyone has given to helping her live a normal life and be happy again would be dashed by that disgusting specatcle. Well, I'm not speaking for a relative, I'm speaking for me. I've been date raped twice, and did not find the scene in question to be a disgusting spectacle, rather depressing to know how frequently this kind of behavior goes on. Not showing violence against women isn't going to make actual violence against women go away and not talking about it doesn't help. Having seen hours of Tarantino style violence against women on screen depicted in comic book style (oh, wait that's ironic isn't it). It's that kind of trivialisation that causes me pain. I was stunned by this episode. Well said that lady. this is from facebook - "after 14 years my daughter as come and told me my ex's boyfriend as sexually abused her" jyekkil work like this is important *like* I still find the comedy angle really inappropriate. I know lightness is important, and no doubt SM felt justified in fusing the two, but the gap between is, well, a bloody chasm. deejayhart - weaving comedy and tragedy is the secret of much great writing and reflects the absurd turmoil of the world in which we live. I agree. Although I'm sure Rosamund Hanson would agree that she has a way to go to hone her acting ability to the standard of Vicky McLure, nevertheless she has an incredible and indefinable screen prescence. As I've said before, I can't take my eyes off her when she's on screen. I thought she also had the funniest line of last night's show in "If you just get the image of Mr Sandhu riding your mum out of your head then you should be alright...." Hahahahaha yeah that was a blinder of a line
