I'd want to be in it but I'm too androgynous to be a skinhead. Unless they have a gay branch of skinheads.

Nah, I don't mind looking gay but the actual homosexuality is something I wouldn't manage. Plus I'd be a long way from home with a load of angry Russians for company.
I'd be sore.

This sounds like a great idea, and it's being done for the right reasons too. Nice one.

Look at me! I'm the biggest Shane Meadows fan of them all! ...eerrrr except I have only just noticed this thread! Sounds very interesting indeed. As someone else mentioned, 86 and 90 are two world cup years. I vividly recall Mexico '86.... nearly every bastard Kinder Egg had the little Mexico '86 mascot fella in it! You gotta get hold of one of those for the series! ;D It also means you can incorporate the Maradonna 'Hand-of-God' into one of the stories... or have it playing out on a TV in the background. Two things from the 80's I would like to see in this series: 80's Pot Noodles and Oink! comic.

Two things from the 80's I would like to see in this series: 80's Pot Noodles and Oink! comic. And a wall to wall soundtrack featuring Doctor and the Medics, a-ha, and the Communards. Not. I vividly remember '86 too - I was 10/11 at the time - remember watching that England/Argentina game and my mum getting carried away by her anger. Also remember the shockingly shite TV shows that were doing the rounds back then. CAT'S EYES, anyone? Thought not...

As long as it doesn't go all Heartbeat on us. They've only used 12 songs for 20 years.

Sounds like a proper good idea. I disagree with those who said it's not the same on TV and all that. TV has changed a lot and some of the best stuff you can watch is 'TV series' these days.
Even back then in the said years..... Grange Hill, Auf Wiedersehen Pet were very good.
There's been some corking TV series/dramas. The Cops, Our Friends in The North were very good before The Sopranos came along and revolutionised Telly as we know it.
As someone else mentioned if it's like The Blackstuff and it's follow up series it'll be well worth a watch. focus on different character per episode etc.

I think the whole hand-of-god thing could be ace! I mean, it was England Vs Argentina.... you couldn't get more apt for stirring up the whole Falklands thing again in the story.
