The Woody and Milky confrontation was shocking and stunning in all the right ways. Most amazingly, I have gathered from interviews that it was done in one brutal take (the first take)! Not only that, but Joe Gilgun mentions how real and dangerous it was (I'm pretty certain it was this scene he was talking about... Check out the video interview I posted in the 'press' thread last night). By this I'm guessing he means he genuinely punched Andrew Shim when attacking him.... Seems insane unless of course you know that Andrew Shim is a UFC fighter so must take some epic punches on a regular basis. But still, very raw, dangerous and real. that whole scene played out so so real, it was as messy as it would be in reality and you could just feel all that horrible adrenaline.

I've given my fair share of criticisms in the past about TIE but can honestly say this series has been note perfect. The comic scenes with Tommo and his special grapes have been a perfect juxstaposition with the darker stuff with Lol and her demons. The series has been beautifully shot, well written and superbly acted. Even the actors with few lines add something beit with their look (especially Trev who says everything with her eyes). It really beggers belief that Shane can get such good performamances from relative amateurs. The pitfalls of such an approach can be seen in Andrea Arnolds Wuthering Heights where most of the cast just can't act. The only small thing I didn't like was Lol backtracking on the story about the night with Combo. Thought it was a bit of cop out and also her telling Combo she loved him...was implicit and didn't need to be said i.m.o. That said TIE is easily the best show on T.V and is an absolute triumph in these soul destroying X Factor times. Oops I forget Shane is a big fan of American Idol but you get the point. agree she didnt have to backtrack so much she could have said "that time in the car" but disagree - Combo needed to hear that so so muchas you saw from Steve Grahams performance, he's been in a cell for christ sake! I agree. It seemed like Lol realised it was the least she could do as a further way of showing her gratitude for what Combo had done for her. She had the chance to eradicate the one moment from their past in which Lol destroyed him.

Here goes, here's my thoughts.... Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said? These past 3 episodes have sent me on an emotional rollercoaster: sobbing my little heart out one minute, crying with laughter the next (the scene with Lol and Woody at the end of last night’s episode is a prime example of that “how dangerous are you out of 10?”). The series as a whole has been pretty brutal and I was certainly put through the paces. The scene when Lol was having her stomach pumped with the whole montage affected me greatly. More so than I was expecting to be honest, it was just so brutal, yet compellingly and strangely beautiful and so brilliantly acted. And the fight between Milky and Woody…I believed it. I believed everything about that scene. And Johnny Harris: that man doesn’t have to say anything and he scares the hell out of me. I remember being really scared for Lol in the first episode when she was in the bath and she saw him – then I remembered he was actually dead. The scene between Lol and Combo felt so real; I did feel a little teary and loved the reference to the film. I enjoyed (is that even appropriate) TIE88 and I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say it will stay with me for a long time! Thank you to the This is England 88 cast and crew for producing such a masterpiece, again.

Just made an account purely to express the amazingness that was this show. Ridiculously brilliant. The scene where Woody thought Lol had died was just an emotional rollercoaster. I was literally laughing and crying at the same time, which I didn't actually think was possible till then... I think it worked perfectly, a great mix or despair then overwhelming relief that added the smallest hint of humor and took away some of the tense atmosphere so that the scene with Woody and Lol at the end could be lighter (although obviously still pretty intense...) And also, Vicky McClure is the standout once again. She totally blows me away. I almost don't like watching her, but only because it's so close to reality I can feel uncomfortable. Lol is trapped in despair again, she's haunted. Yet I feel like Vicky has made her a tiny bit softer than in '86. She is able to apologise and seek help. I am so scared for what will happen to her. Completely agree on the almost not wanting to watch the performance. Sometimes it's just too real. Basically, I am an emotional wreck. Shane Meadows, you rule. Roll on '90!

Agree with just about all that's been said on TIE88 There were some unbelievable scenes with some superb performances. The prison scene The church scene The stomach pump scene The nurse scene The masturbation scene The misty council house scenes All of which have been reviewed on these boards far more articulately than anything I could write. Stephen Graham is on of our finest actors but getting those scenes with Vicky were pure class. I know Vicky is getting high praise but wow does that girl deserve it? The rape scene in TIE86 along with the stomach pump scenes will get her rave reviews, but some of her none speaking scenes were mind blowing. Vicky is without doubt the Jewel in Shanes TIE Crown every thing she did cried out "Genius" Vicky's performance was just as good as it gets her acting skills will be sort by many a director after those nerve jingling scenes. True stars appear very rarely but Vicky is heading up there with the best of them. (If your reading this Vicky you deserve all the credit and awards heading your way you truly are an acting genius) But for me the top performance of TIE88 was not an actor at all it was "That Room and Sofa" (God how I hate that room) Each time we saw it my stomach was churning, they were truly energy zapping shots that really hit home, the brutality of that evil house.(Or the evilness that happened in that room) I felt really uneasy each time we got a shot of it in fact I was on the verge of switching the TV off as it was so scary. Compelling is one of the only words that seems to fit this whole TIE journey I feel bruised, battered and totally exhausted and I'm only a viewer. So I can only guess at how you and the cast must have felt.(Me thinks Drained) What can I say about Mr Meadows that hasn't already been said? Arise Sir Shane I for one thought TIE88 might be a bridge to far but wow how wrong was I? You really have given us some of the greatest scenes ever to be shown on British TV. Shane you are pure Gold Thank You

I wish there were an easier way to see TIE in the US. I'm sure there would be so much more of a following for it.
Shane, thanks for creating characters that we have grown to care so much about. I can't wait until '90 to see what our "friends" have been up to.

I love and hate this moment; when a film or series is finished, that I love. It's too early for me to write my thoughts as I've only just watched the last one on 4 on demand as I'm on too much medication for pain at the moment to stay up late.
Amazing once again .. and absolutely perfect over three nights .. so glad Lol admitted to someone else about her Dad, I think this is what has been holding her back from moving on.
I'll be back ..

Oops I forget Shane is a big fan of American Idol but you get the point. I think you are the only person who got my 'Seacrest Out' reference. I don't know what that says about the pair of us but at least I'm not alone!!! I'm really, really blown away by everyone's feedback. I have given every ounce to this one and so it means a great deal when the hard work pays off. Until people see it, you never really know quite what you've made, so the last few days have been amazing as it seems like you've all seen the programme I wanted to make all those months ago when we set sail. Buzzing!!!!

I tried to post last night from my phone, but it didn't happen... I have loved this series. Really, I think it has had so much heart. The fight scene was amazing. Especially since it was done in one take and fully improvised with no rehearsal! It felt very real to me. I felt so sorry for Woody. I've never been in his shoes, but I have been in the position the gang have. To them, they didn't turn away from Woody, he turned away from them. Milky didn't have a problem with Woody, it was Woody who had the issue with Milky and so he ended up ostracised by default. Only, to Woody it seemed like they sided with the guilty party rather than the victim and he didn't understand why. I liked him throwing Combo's words back at Milky. I think Woody grew up when he was able to become the one to build bridges in the end. I also hope he stays friends with Jennifer, because she seemed to really understand him. Lol's suicide attempt was awful. There was a moment where I thought she'd gone and died too! I can forgive Woody his hysterics in the hospital, because my earlier reaction was probably a little similar - in an internalised fashion. The stomach pumping scene was freaky and so well done. I was a bit surprised at the ending between Lol and Woody. I guess I expected it to be a little more intense and serious. I'm glad it wasn't though. It was very Woody to try to make her laugh. It's also very human. I know I tend to do that when someone I care about is down and I feel awkward and hopeless to help them. It was sweet and really, not much needed to be said in the end. They just got it. A cuddle, a smile and "I love you" was enough. Lol confessing about her father to Woody shows a massive leap from her excluding him from her past with her father throughout the rest of their relationship. She let him in finally and he showed it didn't matter to him. Lol has a long, long way to go before she can be fully at peace, but this is going to help get her there. I think she was wracked with guilt. Over her father, over Combo and over Woody. She felt like she was a bad person and she can finally now feel that she isn't. Maybe this can mean we see Lol settled down and happy in TIE'90? The amazing scene with Combo btw... Vicky McClure said that she think Lol loves Combo like a brother. So it wasn't romantic love she was professing. Oh... and was I the only person a bit scared that Mick was a ghost and not just a vision? He stayed in the church after she left it. That made it even more scary!

The Lol and Combo relationship was just about the only thing I'd struggled to accept in TIE 86. Lol's 'worst night of my life' in the film was pretty damning, after all. I thought that scene was handled-and played-really well. Thought it was really left up to the audience to 'read it.' My reading was that Lol wanted to repair the hurt to Combo, not because whatever she'd felt before wasn't real, but because her feelings towards Combo have now changed-all kinds of mixed emotions-but mainly guilt about where he now is. I thought the 'love you' was more a 'thank you' and 'I'm sorry.' Juts repeating myself really, but I was overwhelmed by the ending with Lol and Woody together-both actors played it so well. Loved the humour in the scene. Again, well done Vicky and Joe, really fantastic performances. I agree with Chromebaby about the empty bed scene btw-thought it was more black humour than designed to string out the audience with the 'is she, isn't she' drama. I felt pretty sure Lol was alive. What about Shaun eh, snivelling and blaming her-tshk ;D Be interesting to see where TIE 90 goes now....... Edit: Wanted to mention Ken Boothe's Everything I Own: That was a HUGE record when I was a kid. A nice one to end on; great bit of Trojan with just the right message/sentiment
