Mmm this is a tough one I couldnt make up my mind between dead mans shoes and a room for romeo brass both two of my favourite all time films. As an short film maker myself people like Shane Meadows are my inspiration, he is one of the best British Directors I have seen, his films take such simple ideas but have wonderful powerful characters, Paddy Considine is such an assett to him. Still now when I show friends or family Romeo Brass or Dead mans shoes they are shocked by what excellent films they are, I like Shane work with friends and families on my films and would be greatful for any advice others have about getting your work seen by the right people.

Sod it. If no-ones gonna vote for 'Small Time' then I'm going for that one as it contains one of my favourite scenes in any film ever. It's the one where Jumbo talks to Malc about 'everything I've done for you'. Very remiscent of 'Mean Streets' 'in the back' scene but it's just one of many in ST that I adore. It's the film that is closest to the people and life I know well. It's full of love and empathy for the characters and puts up two fingers to the Loach/Richardson 1960s ethos that 'it's grim up North'. Also, I suspect, Shane relates to women in a way that Scorcese never could. You only have to look at Marty's failed marriages/'inability to find a replacement mother figure' to see that.
Dead Man's Shoes is Shane's first movie without optimism for it's protagonists and that's probably why a lot of us felt so shook up as we walked out of the cinema. Obviously, This Is England, being semi-autobiographical, may have an upbeat resolution to the narrative a la RFRB.

Too right, Small Time is my favourite too. It might be cos its in Sneinton where I used to live. Theres a wierd enjoyment in being able to say 'i live there' or 'i've had a pint in there'. But to be honest, i reckon its my favourite because its funny as fuck. Martys massage cracks me up.

I voted for Romeo Brass. Simply because it was the film where I thought "Fuck, this guy is good" and it also brought the pulsating (Wonder if he'd like to be called that?) Paddy Consadine to world.
Oh, and of course for it being the first film I'd ever seen an SPX shellsuit.

Just realised theres been no polling yet and I'd like to know this one. Hi! I'm new to these message boards but i think this is an amazing site and i can't believe it's taken me this long to find it! I'm a huge fan of Shane Meadows, i honestly think he's the best film director in the country. For me 247 is still his best film, but that's mostly 'cos im a massive James Corden fan! Anyone know if he's in his new film or if they have plans to work together again? Has anyone here seen All or nothing? Thanks for setting this site up it's sooooooooo cool!

Hi, i'm new to this message board, but i just want to say this is a really great website. I love Shane meadows and it's amazing that he's posted things on here himself! My faveourite is still 24/7 mostly 'cos James Corden is in it, does anyone know if he's in the new film or if him and Shane meadows are gonna work together again? Has anyone seen All or nothing? Mike leigh film, it's amazing but when i watched it i thought this would be so much more honest or lighter if someone like shane had made it. Brilliant website, so glad i've found it.

Welcome to the site Natalienat. Glad you like the site. I too think Shane is the best director (well, all round film-maker really) in the country... that's why I made the site! Is James Corden the guy who plays Tonka? I remember him in that cool channel4 thing about a spoof boy-band. That programme also featured Frank Harper too didn't it as the band manager (Tonka's Dad in 24/7)?

Hi Natalienat,
Welcome to the site!
I actually saw James a few months back when I did a days acting on Paul Frasers first short film and we had a great crack. I really rate him as an actor and would love to work with him again.
Thanks for the kind words bud and I hope you keep visiting the site.
best,
Shane.

I am also new to this brilliant site. Had I known the official SM site was this good I'd have had a look ages ago. What is all this talk of Shame Meadows being ONE of the best filmmakers in the country? THE best more like. Worldwide only Alexander Payne compares to him. Character driven stories are so much more engaging, its refreshing to come away from a film buzzing with empathy for a character. I love your films Mr Meadows, and hope that you are a happy man. I'd also being willing to bear your children too if it were biologically possible, but I guess somethings are best left unsaid...
