Hi, If you make Mary - An intimate study of a young prostitute don't forget the obsessed affectionate middle aged client who showers her with gifts believing this is a real relationship. Of course she treats him like shit but really they need each other more than they know... Scottie

Pretty Woman!!! Not what I was thinking. Prostitute do tend to have an admirer who they treat more as a friend than a client. These clients then start doing favours and running the prostitute about in normal life believing they have some kind of relationship. Example the first guy (who was innocent) arrested in the Ipswich prostitute murder case. The question is who is using who....
This of course is all dependent on the prostitute her self. maybe she is week and fragile, if so she would need him more for security. But if she's a street bitch then most likely she is using his stupidity for her own gain.

Insightful Personally, I voted for King of the Gypsies and I can't wait to finally see it. Would be interesting to see how Shane tackled the Mary story though, not least because it would be the first of his films with a central female character. But also because prostitution is such a grim and massive industry in Nottingham.

I know you've already decided but after all you've said about Bartley Gorman it has to be that. So I'm glad that's next, although some of the others sound well interesting as well. COME ON!!! I WANNA SEE MORE!!! I can't believe it's coming up to a year since I saw This Is England at the Leicester Square!!! Apparently you had a hangover from the night before and didn't turn up for our showing. I really wanted to come to that one the night before but I couldn't get off work. Still was a good day and a wicked film!!!

Mary sounds amazing, I've been reading up on it and aparently shanes unkle saved a prostitute from a beating then was stuck with her as she had knowhere to live, plus as has been said it'd be the first film with a central female role

not really getting the post above...
anyway, on a personal level, I'd love to see Shane adapt Irvine Welsh's Marabou Stork Nightmares, he would nail the gritty realism, and also has fantasy (the main character is in a coma and thinks up this fantasy world where he is in africa hunting a bird)
yeah, just a personal thing, favourite book and favourite director kind of thing, gonna be happy with whatever comes next.
