I had a good old watch of Gamer with the commentary the other day! Hooray for fun/enjoyable/self-aware/interesting commentaries! Neveldine & Taylor are present and correct, along with Terry Crews and Amber Valetta.... and brief appearance from Alison Lohman (who I believe is actually married to Mark Neveldine after meeting on Gamer). I've said it before, but the best thing about N&T in their commentaries is that they always provide a bullshit free appraisal of their own work. They have no qualms about pointing out bits of the film they don't think work very well, or stuff that is just laughable crap... like some of the vague sci-fi future tech in the film. Taylor is always piping up with comments like, "Wait a second, so she just presses a few buttons on a computer terminal in a street somewhere and the whole final confrontation is then inexplicably broadcast live to the word?".... or just laughing at what they have written as dialogue in the film to explain certain future tech... "What's that he's saying? You combine the nano stuff to the cortex and get a nanex... or some bullshit like that." I find all that very refreshing. Especially on Gamer, because it isn't set in the mad-cap world of Crank, it supposed to be a serious sci-fi film, and does play as one.... so to openly ridicule certain parts of their own work is really great to hear. It's far more enjoyable than listening to some other directors earnestly trying to explain the thought process behind certain fantasy or sci-fi ideas. There's a place for both obviously, but when you are listening to a director trying to seriously explain something which is clearly just throwaway sci-fi speak, then they can sometimes seem like they feel their work is more important than it actually is. It was quite amusing to hear that Alison Lohman didn't really want to do the film at all. They are all happy to just speak about how her agent advised her to do something different and that an action film could be good for her career. It's also funny to hear N&T sarcastically pointing out how believable she is a tough, motorcycle riding anarchist! The film-making is always impressive too.... have you seen the flying cameraman trick by Mark Neveldine: www.traileraddict.com/trailer/gamer/b-roll-iii

Not directed by Neveldine/Taylor, but the script was written by them... although they say it has been changed a bit since it left their hands... always seems to be the way.
Jonah Hex (another comic book character I have no clue about)
As always, they are being nice and honest about the things they are involved in. On their Twitter feed they recently posted about Jonah Hex, saying: "Keep those expectations low, y'all" ;D
Not only has their script been changed, but the film seems to have had a bit of a troubled production with the original director leaving. The director is listed as Jimmy Hayward. No idea who he is, so just looked him up. This is only his second film, the first being, Horton Hears a Who. haha Interesting. More interesting though is that he seems to be an animator primarily (or previously).. having worked on some big films... Toy Story 1 and 2, Finding Nemo, Bugs Life, and Monsters Inc!

Just talking to myself again in this thread now... oh well ;D I ordered a couple of their scripts from their website, and a month went by without any sign of my order so I thought I'd send an email to check that I hadn't been overlooked. Got a reply (from Mr Taylor himself I think) explaining how they've been really bad at getting the orders sorted because they've been so busy sorting out their next project. It's amazing that they are running the web store themselves aswell as keeping their Hollywood film career on the go! Anyway, he said the orders were being sent out the next day, and that they are popping in some extra stuff for me for being so patient! I wonder what it will be! He then also mentioned that their next film is going to be BIG.... and an announcement should be coming next week! I wonder if the Grand Theft Auto thing has actually happened for them!!!!

Got my scripts through today! My, they are hefty! Really looking forward to reading all the differences and stuff that never made it to the final script. Also really want to see how these guys write!
... and yes, they had included a nice bonus! They included the soundtrack CDs to both Crank and Gamer! Nice! Completes my collection, because I already have Crank 2 soundtrack CD! Also got a nice temporary tattoo of a big burn mark that looks like a power socket... a Crank2 promo item! ;D

The NT have made this advertisement for the Panasonic G2 filled with their usual frenetic mallarkey!

My one man conversation continues! It's a good archive of news for me anyway! ;D
There's a little making of video for that G2 commercial:
Neveldine using his patented 'Roller-Dolly' technique there.

Not sure if i've posted this already... I watched Gamer, finally.
I thought it was excellent. It seemed like a Crank/Running Man hybrid which was pleasing.
Next, Johan Hex. Although without the direction of N&T, im not expecting too much.

Although without the direction of N&T, im not expecting too much. Quick! There's someone to respond to! I've not read my Gamer script yet (it was called Citizen Game), but there's the promise of more madcap stuff that didn't make the final film. I'm especially intrigued to find out what the "Infinite Ken Castles" bit is all about! ;D The Crank script is great fun. It's really interesting reading the action. Most of it seemed to be fully fleshed out in the writing rather than worked on afterwards. They have some brilliant descriptions for things in the script. A favourite of mine was the description of the sound of Chev watching the clock on a microwave tick over to noon, as he's in his delirious slowed down state. "...like the sound of an 18-wheeler being dragged on it's side through a cathedral."

There is currently a very small scale trend on Twitter regarding an idea for Crank 3.
SHEEN. CRANK 3. MAKE IT HAPPEN
That would be perfick! hahaha

Ah! It warms my heart to see someone else reviving this thread once again!
The auteurs Neveldine & Taylor are back again! ;D
I've been searching every day for more titbits from their ComicCon panel, but annoyingly the full thing is not online anywhere.. yet. I especially want to see the two clips they showed. One was a teaser reel of bits from the film, and they also showed a behind the scenes video showing that they are still using all their crazed filming style and techniques. It's amazing actually that Mark Neveldine has actually patented the Roller Dolly filming technique... which is basically him on rollerblades getting dangerous and fast shots. A good quote from N/T is that they would never ask a stuntperson to do something that they wouldn't do themselves.
I've read a lot of the written coverage of the event and really like what I hear. I really didn't like the first Ghost Rider at all. CG borefest that it was. The ONLY reason I am really interested in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is Neveldine & Taylor... both re-writing the script and directing the film. Directing for them also means camera operating too for most of the shoot.
I was very happy to hear that they are still keeping all the stunt work and action stuff as practical as possible, with as little CGI as possible too (flaming skulls excluded). Brian Taylor was quoted as saying "You will see bones breaking in this film, not CG bones, real bones." This quote came after they had already mentioned that they gave a talk to their stunt crew at the beginning of filming that went along the lines of; "If anyone gets injured during the making of the film, then that will be the take that ends up in the film". They see it as being respectful and appreciative of what these people do for their art! ;D
So, yes, I am excited to see it.... although its in bloody 3D! Doubly annoying because I'm sick of 3D, but there's no way I can miss seeing what N/T do with 3D, so I'll have to watch the 3D version. Annoying! haha. At least it was filmed in 3D and not done in post.... ... that's hanging onto the back of a motorcycle on rollerblades filming with a 3D camera! Good lord!
It really is as a few people have stated... Gonzo film-making being brought into the mainstream. They are still using low-budget filming techniques on potential blockbuster mainstream films. Great stuff.
PS Oh yeah, Jonah Hex is pure tedium. I know the N/T script was messed with before the film went into production too, but even so, I can't see how it could ever have been much cop. However, I do for some reason have a built in loathing of anything Western/Cowboys based. A film has to be a really good Western themed affair for me to like it.

Crank 3 rumour... well, seems a bit more than a rumour as it comes from Efren Ramirez (Kaylo & Venus) www.aintitcool.com/node/50558Either a sequel or a prequel.. which I guess depends on whether Statham returns. I always thought that the end of 2 was a good excuse to have new actor in 3 anyway.
