I've been wracking my brains about the opening, my initial thought is that of course it was a deleted scene, but the film had a very different look to the series, and the opening scene had the same look as the series. Im not sure exactly what they shot the series on, but it looks alot like what they shot Red Riding on which was the Arricam LT (which is a very crisp 35mm image) vs the very grainy 16mm they shot the film on. Any ideas??? it was shot on RED's I didnt think it was a deleted scene either I'll have to see it again, one thing I really noticed in that opening scene was Tomo carried himself with a lot more confidence when he was walking away from Combos car he had an older walk to the kid who made his way down to the beach at the end of the film. I thought the opening scenes were 'left overs' from the film-Thomas Turgoose looks much younger and no amount of make-up or trickery can pull that off, I think. Shane has mentioned having lots of extra stuff after the final edit of TIE-who knows maybe more 'extras' will crop in as flashbacks or something, in the TV show. Loved the bit of Shaun standing in the rain. I think Shane was right to leave out the car scene with Shaun and Combo in the film, but wished he'd kept that bit in

It was actually amazing. The only problem I had was ad-breaks, small problem though.
Anyone know the last song played while Lol smokes?

I thought the first episode was a bit of a mixed bag.
The high points were
: Vicky Mcclure's acting which outshone virtually the whole cast put together : The One liners from the likes of Milky about the flowers coming from Transylvania and the shoe shop lady revealing Gadge's dairylea triangle incident : Some good shots of strange urban architechture that Shane has such an eye for
The negatives for me were
The mixed bag of acting. Vicky Mcclure + her father have a massive presence whereas I felt Milky and even woody were slightly shaky in their performances
The scene with the casuals. Don't get me wrong it was funny but it went too far the way of the absurd which made me less able to connect with the serious scenes
I also wonder why a social realist project would paint the casual gang as mindless (and all white!) when they had a chance to portray another social grouping of the time. Of course the whole thing was a nod to "The Firm" but many many casual crews (inc West Ham)had a fair number of blacks and even asians. Not according to TIE 86 tho?
That said I am probably splitting hairs being a meadows fan from the year dot and I expect the future episodes to pick up. Cant wait to see more of Johnny Harris...he's a class act

The chaps on the TIE'86 Facebook page have what appears to be a full listing of the soundtrack. www.facebook.com/pages/This-is-England-86/138450079499921The soundtrack was another aspect that gave it a deep and rich cinematic quality.

Thanks for that note, figured it was aither RED or the Arricam, Ive dived back into the archves on the forum and there was a post from shane saying he planned to shoot on the same cameras, I guess It was a budget reason (or possible C4 mandate) to shoot on red, I would love to have seen them take the RED footage and do a 16mm transfer at least to try dirty it up and get something a bit more evocative of the time (The image is too crisp)
Anyways can anyone confirm that the opening was a deleted scene, I only have the This is Shane Meadows boxset so I dont have that second disc with the deleted scenes. I had a look again, and theres definitely trickery afoot!

Cheers Bill, 'Man of the world' by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. The comparisons to Skins/Shameless are obvious, because of the subject matter, theres loads more TV references you could throw into the mix. However the style, content and overall product of TIE86 cant be compared. Like Chromebaby said 'very fresh, very cinematic and very high quality.' - Has anyone mentioned the ringpulls yet....
- Is Gadge's mate in the Cramps T Shirts the guy that first takes the piss out of Shaun in TIE?
- Are there two chip shop owners on the front of the leaflet Shauns Mum gives him in the Cafe?!

I had a look again, and theres definitely trickery afoot! I just watched it again. I'd say that Shaun in the rain and Shaun IN the car are definitely original footage from the film. TT is just too young for it to be otherwise. On the other hand Shaun walking away from the car is definitely not the young TT-he's way too tall-so that must be new stuff designed to provide the link between Shaun then and Shaun now! Blimey I hope somebody comes on the forum and settles this one!

Anyone know the last song played while Lol smokes? Did anybody recognise the track that was playing at Lol and Woody's wedding? I remember this from way, way back-in fact I think I might have owned a copy once upon a time- but I just can't bring it to mind. Sounds like Johnny Nash, but I can't find it on Spotify. This is going to drive me mad all day. Help!

I think it was on a greatest hit LP I once owned-always liked it. Johnny Nash is ace. Edit: Maybe shouldn't have deleted my facebook account afterall-there actually something worth reading on there from time to time Edit: Nothing to do with Shane or TIE, but has anybody else notice the similarity between Nash's Guava Jelly (14 secs-36) and Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye?: (18secs-35secs) George Harrison must be spinning in his grave after being forced to stump up all that cash to the Chiffons! Really must get back to my work-whatever that is.

I had a look again, and theres definitely trickery afoot! I can categorically confirm that the opening WAS a deleted scene from the film. There is no trickery afoot. Well, apart from the fact that the young Tommo holding his hand out in the rain was real rain, but with the older Tommo in the series it was a rain machine (a glorified sprinkler). Hope that clears things up **Edit** - Jill, Tommo walking away from the car was also from the film, basically everything before the cut to the older Tommo outside the exam hall was shot in 2005/2006.

Hope that clears things up Is the actor walking away from the car TT Rich? And if so, is he the young TT, the now TT, or a bit of both. He looks pretty tall, especially when he reaches the building. It's all in shadow too which makes me think it isn't him. Not important really, but it's one of those small things that'll keep bugging me. Edit: Ta! Now I can finally get on with some work
