I can categorically confirm that the opening WAS a deleted scene from the film. There is no trickery afoot. Well, apart from the fact that the young Tommo holding his hand out in the rain was real rain, but with the older Tommo in the series it was a rain machine (a glorified sprinkler). Hope that clears things up Is the actor walking away from the car TT Rich? And if so, is he the young TT, the now TT, or a bit of both. He looks pretty tall, especially when he reaches the building. It's all in shadow too which makes me think it isn't him. Not important really, but it's one of those small things that'll keep bugging me. Edit: Ta! Now I can finally get on with some work yeah watching it again what was I thinking, I wonder if thats ever been done before? even in a feature film sequel has a deleted scene from the previous film ever been used? bet Shane punched the air when ever he came up with that

...or (and I cant believe Im only thinking of this now) was the original TIE footage dirtied up for the film?

Anyways can anyone confirm that the opening was a deleted scene, I only have the This is Shane Meadows boxset so I dont have that second disc with the deleted scenes. I had a look again, and theres definitely trickery afoot! I can categorically confirm that the opening WAS a deleted scene from the film. There is no trickery afoot. I'm surprised no-one else here has even mentioned that the main scene from the beginning of TIE86 was a deleted scene that is on the TIE DVD! Oh dear, oh dear... and you call yourselves fans!

I thought the Flip character was hilarious if a bit cartoony but then there are people who adopt those kind of growling hardman masks 24/7. That's what I was thinking too. A few people have thought Flip was too over the top, but I felt the same way as you Chromebaby. I've definitely known a couple of people who acted their own 'hard' persona all the time. DVD... oh yes, you can pre-order from the lovely Meadows Mart: shanemeadows-co-uk.nottsbox.com/shop.htmAll proceeds go to the running of the site... and then my pocket.

Blimey Dave, I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday. I do have a vague memory of that scene from watching the extras a long time back, but not Shaun in the rain. I'm pretty sure that isn't on there.

I remembered watching the deleted scene at the start on the DVD.
I enjoyed the episode, but it does seem to have divided my friends. Some loved it, but others said they were disappointed. For me, I think maybe there did feel to be a lack of cohesive narrative and dramatic tension. All of the story strands felt quite seperate and slight. However... this is just the start. This is the set up for what is to come and I am sure it will pick up pace and tension as it goes. As it was, it was enjoyable, warm and funny and I loved seeing all the characters again.
From the subtle hints we got, I liked Shaun's sense of isolation and standing on the outer edge of childhood. I also liked the tension between Woody and Lol and I thought the (non) exchange of vows was well acted by both. Mick already feels dangerous to me and I think the relationship between him and Lol is what is really going to grab people come next week and beyond.

I can't recall who was asking about the end credits earlier, but here they are: www.channel4.com/explore/this-is-england-86/#/about/creditsDropping the credits gives you more broadcast time. I've only noticed Chris Morris projects doing this before now. I think Jam was the first series to do it. I've just noticed that the credits have the full soundtrack listing for each episode... so there be musical SPOILERS on there!

[/li][li]Has anyone mentioned the ringpulls yet.... [/li][li]Is Gadge's mate in the Cramps T Shirts the guy that first takes the piss out of Shaun in TIE? [/li][li]Are there two chip shop owners on the front of the leaflet Shauns Mum gives him in the Cafe?!

[/li][li]Is Gadge's mate in the Cramps T Shirts the guy that first takes the piss out of Shaun in TIE? Yes. His name is Harvey... which should make an interesting encounter between him and Shaun.

I thought it was a really good first episode. definitely lighter and funnier than i expected but that probably compares to the first half of the film. some really funny scenes, shaun psyching himself up outside that girls house, that flip character was good and i thought the shoe shop lady was great. Steven Graham's wife is it not? looking forward to seeing more from her. sets it all up nicely for what is bound to be darker times ahead, roll on the next one.

- Has anyone mentioned the ringpulls yet....
Not on here no... I had someone mention it when the first couple of trailers were up on YouTube. Someone on YouTube mentioned the scene in the cafe with Shaun and his mum, where Shaun says "...end of!". They point out that that wasn't a term used in '86. I think they're right. It's all very petty of course, but doesn't mean it isn't fun to spot these things. ;D Oh.. the Job Centre leaflet... I thought it was a couple of builders on the front. I'm sure I saw a hard hat!

I'm also really glad that she has a bigger role in the show-she's great. Is she from Nott'm/E.Mids? Anybody know? If not, she might the first 'outsider' to nail the accent

I've just spotted the weirdest Youtube complaint about getting the '86 era wrong: "You couldn't get frozen pizza with crust in 1986!"
Haha.. I don't even recall a pizza in the programme.
Someone else has commented: "What has happened to the cross tattoo on Woody's forehead?"
Hmm.. good point!

Yeah, you're right. It must be just millimetres above Weller-level.
