It's just that if it is a female lead story the advertisement I saw was well out of order .... But you might well be totally right about that. If she has been 'displaced' to make way for the usual hero type. It's just that I'm not sure, because I don't know if this is just a remake of the one film, or is a sort of a condensed version of the trilogy-and that changes things in terns of who takes centre stage. I think Bill's seen all of them, so maybe he'll know. Yes, as Jill says, they're too different to compare. But In the original films and indeed the books, Lisbeth Salander is the lead female character. But in the first film and book it's a duo with her and Mikail Blomkvist. The next two installments revolve around Lisbeth's story and she's definatley the protagonist in them. She's a great character but more of a male fantasy than anything as real as Lol. I think Lol would win in a fight with Lisbeth anyway. But only just. And it would be epic. And to further steer this thread back on topic... THAT WAS INCREDIBLE! shame about shaun and smell, but at least woody and lol are doing better. also, about those paper crown things, are those common in England? i've never seen them in america. lastly, does anyone know anything about the swastika tattoo woody had? you get them in crackers, but I've just realized you won't have crackers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_crackertwo people grab an end each and pull and whoever gets the big bit gets whats inside, there's a shit joke, a paper hat and a keyring or toy or something. Crackers were banned in the U.S.A because a prize ejected from a paper toy was considered communist

Hi, not been on this site before and not sure if I am posting in the right place but having spent a day eating/drinking etc ( 25th December ) I am in a reflective mood.
Regarding This is England 88. I would like to congratulate Mr Meadows and anyone else who had to do with the production. I was pleased with the sensitivity shown around the disclosure of childhood abuse. I work for an organisation that supports women survivers of childhood sexual abuse. Being listened to and believed is the start of healing for the victims. I hope that anyone who saw the programme feels safe to contact relevant agencies for support and advice. many thanks on behalf of those victims.

Sexually interfering with moose is very common in Canada ..and Sheffield Hahaha Anyway, I haven't been back since I saw the last ep. Loved loved loved it, the whole thing was utterly brilliant. I've read some criticism in the press but b*llocks to that; all art attracts both negative and positive reactions. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing negative to say about TIE88, it was perfect. Loved it, thank you all for all your hard work. XXX

hello, first timer here, let me start by saying despite a few things I totally love the whole THE story, I can really relate to Shaun as the young lad in 83, not that my father was killed in the Falklands but just the fact that I was a. young 11 year old in 80 trying to fit into a group, and as my older brother by 4 yrs was a skin and I so much wanted to hang about with him and his mates, and to finally be aloud to do so was great, these blokes were my heros, I wanted the Fred perry polls , the sta press, the crombie, the loafers, the 14 up dockies. here comes my first little rant, now i know it's based up in the north east, and I'm from Suffolk, but by 83' the whole skinhead thing was over, ok there were a few late comers about I.e people of my age that so desperately wanted to be a skin back in 79, 80 and 81, but they were few and far between, and I certainly don't remember anyone of these lads ages wearing expensive Ben Sherman shirts! again maybe a northern thing. and woodys sideburns would never have 'gone' around here in 79 80 81 82 or 83, he'd have had the piss ripped right out of him! first rant over, believe me I do love the whole franchise! I'm just a stickler for detail. watched the film 15 or so times before 86 was announced, and can't tell you how happy I was, so wanted to know what had happened to (my friends) you.l agree I'm sure that's how they all feel to us. found the whole wedding thing a bit farcical in episode one, and the fact that ultra hard banjo was running about with an orange Tupperware tub full of party food a bit strange ;-) what happened to the lunatic that raged into the house brandishing a machete in the film? but not much more to moan about, still find some of the acting a bit wooden, but somehow I forgive it, obviously I'm no referring to vicky McClure or. Stephen graham, absolutely outstanding performances by both. my main gripe is with our woods, now as much as I love joe gilguns character, his acting ability is far from sharp. but still love him, honest ;-) loving tha music, some of the old reggae is totally taking me back to mates front rooms in the early 80s. apart from the cures close to me mixed up version on the menu of 88 that wasn't released until 90. ( details do matter) opening 88 with the smiths was genius, top track! I know I'm jumping about but back to 86, it just draws you back to the era, the whole world cup, being 17, awkwardness around girls, hanging about in pubs, trying to get served, great times! some of the scenes with lol just have me glued to the telly, she's outstanding, would loved to have sen Shaun involved a little it more with the gang, apart form the football ont the green, not much else, (loving Harvey's sneaky punch) I'm here for the ginge! classic. 88 has to be my all time favourite piece of television, the sorrow you feel for lol, it's so real, and it shows that Christmas can be a real shit time for the less fortunate, the poor girl is tortured by what her father did, what she did to him and also that her good FRIEND. combo is doing time for her,the way it builds with the tension of the soundtrack is magic! the moment she broke down when the health worker promised to 'help her' had me in tears! it was electric! again I want to see more of Shaun with the gang, I know people go in different directions but it's just a shame. ah another 'little gripe' sorry. tattoos, now as most of the tats look like the sort you get in a mates bedroom whilst listening to the specials , the seem very dark and sharp for tats that are now at least five years old. sorry but they would have faded (details ) I've heard a few people saying how disappointed they were to see a nazi swastika on woodys arm in the bath scene and that he wouldn't be into all that bollocks, truth is most skins weren't REALY racist, most skins didn't even know what it really meant and just got swept up it all! agree? I knows lot of blokes that have had home tats covered for the very same reason. people have also slagged the fight outside the cafe between woods and milky, saying it looked daft. well maybe just maybe woody didn't wanna REALY hurt his mate, that's how a lot of fights are, a few missed punches, a couple of slaps! it's not Hollywood ;-) but everyone's allowed an opinion. so summing up, despite a few personal grumbles with acting, details...I totally love everything this is England! mr meadows, I bow before you! now I know 90 was delayed, and I can't wait for it as mr meadows has said its a certainty, but begone that? it's one of those, he's yes make more, but really where could it go? they're older, moved apart and getting on with different lives. I don't doubt that it could have wrapped in 88, lol and woods seemed to be back together, although I don't know how he'll tell his girlfriend and very strange parents(I swear I know these people ;-) ) the gangs back together, poor old combo as we know gets out in 1990. but that doesn't mean I don't wanna see 90 94 99 2010. or 2038 -) long may it continue if there's a story to tell.LOVE IT!

Hey there iloveskins. Wow, you can really tell you're well into the This Is England stuff. Was interesting to read about what you loved and what you had little quibbles over. Interesting that the fight scene in '88 is one bit that you (or was it just other people you have heard) saying it was a bit daft. I really didn't feel that at all... like you mention, it's not Hollywood, and most real fights are not choreographed scenes of perfection.. they're horrible and messy acts or chaotic aggression. Oh... do use the enter button every now again! It's just that it makes it harder to read if you end up with a solid mass of text!

Hi guys another newbie here! I'm wondering (apologies if this has already been asked/discussed) if Jennifer knows of Woody's past? By this, I mean the whole gang-type-thing (if you get me?!). She must know a little bit but then again she just seems so different to Woody that I wonder if he's told her anything at all? I know this might not make sense but it made sense when I was thinking about it

When you get a new girlfriend you never talk to them about your last girlfriend, especially considering Woody's circumstances. I reckon he's completely buried it in himself. Jennifer mentions Lol in her & Woody's scene together after the fight. Before that it seems like she doesn't know the gang at all. Although the Gang do seem to have met her, or at least seen her. I took it that the fight is when she first hears detail about that part of Woody's past. Hence the understanding in the bathroom scene. It'd be interesting to see if anything was cut out around this bit.

Hmm see I thought that at first but I then thought maybe Woody could just come clean about it all, as it might have made it seem a little less "fake" if that makes sense?! However, if Jennifer did know, maybe she would understand Woody more? Oh I don't know lol! My last idea seems rubbish now haha!
