Didn't see a thread up so thought I start one.
Very good opening episode made even more special by Sniffbanging during Fool's Gold . Also loved the Use of the La's There She Goes during the opening titles. The stand out scene was definitely the phone discussion between Woody and his parents, it was laugh out funny and really sweet to boot. Nice touch to bring Woody's ex Jennifer back, I always thought she was a sweet character. It was more laugh out funny then I was expecting aside from Shaun's fight with Smell's new fella at the end, you just knew it was trouble once he came over as he was obviously rubbing it in. I love that Gadget, Harvey and Kelly look like they are going to be front and centre this Series too. All in all great first episode.

Ah yes.. a spoiler thread! Good idea! The phonecall scene was absolutely my favourite scene too! Always good to see some natural laughter. I didn't catch Woody referring to "Idiots Gold" when I saw the episode at the press screening.. you know when he's doing his version of Fools Gold!
I've been trying to follow all the action on Twitter through the ShadyMeadows account that I run. It went mental... only thing out-trending #ThisIsEngland90 in the UK was the bloody Xfactor. Ugh.
Woody's old boss in the cupboard was insane.
I dread to think where the story for some of these characters is going. Combo's return, etc! The first episode was a great laugh with a few scuffles along the way, just letting us all know where all the characters currently are and what they're up to.... episode 2 will be the beginning of the darkness!

Loved it; from the opening as was said above with 'There She Goes' to the end it was a great watch. It made me feel old as I remember most of the events of 1990 as a young lad. Jo Hartley really is fantastic in her role. Flip and Higgy are one of the best double acts on TV And favorite line for me was "You won't lezz off in front of me kids will ya? "Fuck off Woody"

Was going to post last night-then Dave's post said everything I'd planned to say. Caught up with the characters, set up the story lines, hooked the viewers. Left me feeling the best is to come. Enjoyable though, with some great lines. The bit where Woody's ex-boss was hiding in the cupboard was totally bonkers- in a good way. Like the way his folks are becoming progressively bonkers-and lovable. Also loved that it opened with The Las- love that song. Also appreciated the Des Walker reference. He was still with the mighty reds in 1990, so I'll continue to think that all this is going on in God's own city thank you very much Looking forward to part II. Fantastic how Shane has reached so many people with this venture into TV: www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/england-90-hailed-brilliant-funny-6437327

Absolutely loved the first episode. Perfect introduction to the changes with the characters over the last couple of years. Great to see Lol smiling again after her traumatic experience in 88. Woody as always is comedy gold. I love that it has been a lighthearted start to the series, but like others I am feeling on the edge and excited about what is to come. X

I was looking at Twitter most of yesterday, and I literally only saw one person saying they didn't like it out of thousands of comments! Then there were the couple of pedants claiming certain things in the episode weren't around until after 1990. ha.

Go out to the Guardian review Dave, you see a few naysayers there especially one saying "It's only Skin's Set in the 90. Overrated Tripe". With anything you get a few that just won't see the greatness in it. But so far all the reviews have been great which is great news.
I bet the ones who said most of the stuff weren't around in 1990 were only kids and weren't born ha.
I'm looking forward to seen what the next three episodes bring to the table
I'm expecting Smell's new Fella to cause Shaun a bit of trouble. I think Smell is definitely trying to cause him as much pain as she can for what he did, I mean Shaun. I think Gadget and Harvey will take a dark turn, maybe with Harvey turning to dealing harder drugs. I think it's obviously Kelly will have a downturn with her been addicted to drugs. I think LoL and Woody will have trouble with Combo.

Unfortunately you always get people who focus on those things, instead of enjoying it for what it is. I'll have to keep my eye on Twitter, I'm out of touch!

It's useful even if you don't want interact with anyone on there! You can use it as just a news feed from people and things you're interested in. There's so many ways to use Twitter... I'm still a fan after being on it for years now. It's a bit weird to start with though. I'm a bit unsure about Flip and Iggy at the moment, it's almost like they're from another 'broad' universe!

I'm baffled. How did Shane know about Readers' Wives? That was laughed at when I was a teenager and isn't Shane a lot younger than me? I trust this knowledge came to him through research :-)

Then there were the couple of pedants claiming certain things in the episode weren't around until after 1990. ha. Must admit, I did Google when There She Goes was released. Wrong! First released late 80s, re-released (twice) in the 90s. Too much time on my hands-like many people out there in internet land

I thought that was "let off" Re watched it and pretty sure it was 'lezz off' I did see a few folk on facebook moaning that people did not use some slang and some things were wrong. I mean it could be different folks did say things different and such. Me I do not get the need to complain about stuff; discuss sure but folk moaning just makes no sense. Watching the show it really feels like catching up with old friends and seeing how they are.

The obsession with small details by some people might be part of that? Shane has a real nose (or ear) for evocative tunes, I think-memories flooding back (and all that)-well, for me at least.
