Based on the two clips posted on this page (and Dave's usually great taste in such things, I've ordered the DVD from the HMV website for the price of £11.69 (10% student discount).

"Everybody goes through phrases" "Supply and command" Hey Fil.... glad someone is taking the plunge. Bit worrying that I may have caused you to waste £11.69... haha... but there is no chance of that.... you'll love it (and then wish the next 4 seasons and the film were available over here too). Back to the programme: John Dunsworth who plays Mr Lahey the trailer park supervisor does the best drunk acting I have ever seen. Just thought it worth a mention. haha. Also.. his real life daughter plays Sarah in the show.

Hiya,
Just discovered this thread- a bit off the pace as usual. Delighted to find some TPB fans here-though not surprised-good taste. Iwas at a meeting at work a couple of weeks ago. Spontaneously responded to some 'strategy' stuff with a 'the first wagon in the shit convoy' comment. Was met with open mouths consternation! Glad to know there are folks out there who understand. It's all good, but Conky is genius.

Hi,
Late contribution again....The Cart Boy is wonderful-all the later TPB themes are there-sympathy, empathy, friendship, love (?), Kitties!

;D Another fan steps forward! Glad to have you with us Jill.
The Cartboy short film is great. The DVD has some great little extras. I particularly liked the deleted scene where Trinity is making roll-ups with some little roll-up making machine. For those who don't know, Trinity is about 6 or 7(?) in the first series. I just love that there's a cat wandering about as she's making the roll-ups and she keeps warning the cat: "You better not eat my smokes!"
Good on you for throwing in some Laheyisms into your busines meetings!
"You know what you get when you plant shit seeds Randy?" ".... Shit weeds!"
As for Conky.... it's beyond inspired! The thing that makes Trailer Park Boys so great is that a weaker, crowd pleasing comedy would have brought Conky back. Trailer Park Boys is so consistantly brilliant, they don't need to pull such stunts. The best/worst example of a comedy going for the easy crowd pleasing route is Papa Lazarou in the League of Gentlemen.

It's all good, but Conky is genius. Jill Conky at the hospital: Nurse: "What is your problem sir?" Ricky: "Well, now I can't smoke, that's my first problem. I've got a busted nose which I now have a rag glued to, and a fucking truck glued to my hand.... how's that for a start!"

Hello everybody,
I like to drop the occasional 'way it goes' into conversations at opportune moments too-though people don't have a scooby what I'm on about and probably think I'm weird. And mates who are winding me up now get a 'fuck off to fuckoffity land!' (What a gem!)
It's great that this thread has been started. My son got me into TPB a while back-maybe a year or so ago. It took me a few episodes to get into it-the appeal does rest on growing to know and love the characters-but then I was completely hooked.
There are so many 'classic' moments that it hard to pick a favourite. Conky is genius-I love everything about it, from the concept, to the dialogue ('Bubbles made this puppet back in grade ?. ...It's his confidante', 'His what?', 'Nevermind' and, of course; 'You're pointing a loaded handgun at a puppet') to the homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest in the hospital scene. Bubbles and Ricky's attack on the "samsquanch" is great-you see it coming, but it's still funny and the courtroom scene in 'If I can't smoke and swear, I'm fucked' is hilarious. But, Conky apart, my favourite scene is probably the scene near the end of the Xmas special when Bubbles opens his present. It's unashamedly sentimental, but if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you've got a heart of stone.
Most of TPB is avalible on Amazon (though some episodes are only playable on a region 1 DVD player). The advantage of buying the original Xmas Special (rather than getting hold of a pirate) is that you get a fantastic Conky puppet in the presentation pack! No UK release date yet for The Big Dirty. Hope we don't have to wait too long.....

PPS. Also love the bit in 'Steve French' when Ricky has to give 'the helpless little kitty' some of his dope and he insists he gets half the fajitas as a 'trade'! Jill

Hi all , I think the TPB bandwagon is finally rolling eh Dave !!! The official release DVD is an absolute bargain, as you point out the extras and deleted scenes contain a few gems ; the "Ricky loses it " montage is a favourite as well as the scene with Lahey's daughter "Your Dad's a Dick" haha. ;D I just found out at the weekend how to convert my DVD player to multi region so it could well be that I'll be shopping for the originals over the coming months. And yes I think you're right Dave, Lahey is the best drunk ever. Only guy that comes close for me is the guy in "Rita, Sue & Bob Too" "I've done some things"

Hi all , And yes I think you're right Dave, Lahey is the best drunk ever. Only guy that comes close for me is the guy in "Rita, Sue & Bob Too" "I've done some things" Richard E Grant in Withnail & I is brilliant, but I reckon John Dunsworth (who plays Mr Lahey) is even more realistic. I guess the Withnail character is a struggling actor who thinks he should be recognised as a huge talent, so his slightly theatrical drunkeness makes perfect sense. The character of Mr Lahey has to perform far more difficult scenarios of drunkeness.. haha. Such as when he's spying on Ricky and Julian when he's sober, but acting as though he's drunk. It's amazing seeing a character that is mostly drunk continuously from series 2 onwards and then having that character pretending to be drunk when he's not. The subtlety in his acting is astounding. Just incase you haven't found the Cartboy short film.. it's on disc 2... go to extra features... then go down to CREDITS and then press right on your controller (towards the little image of the shopping cart).

I've seen series one so far (and the extras on disc 1 - will have to check out Cartboy soon). After a few episodes, I began to really like it; shame I only have seven episodes left to watch at the moment. I recently watched all three series of Operation Good Guys, and watching TPB reminds me a little of it (the documentary feel). Roll on DVDs of series 3-6 and the film in the UK...
