'Tho the concepts are good, and some of the dry humour is funny..It still feels slightly dull' Well maybe give it a wee bit more time. I sort of think that you're not going to get into it for 3 or 4 episodes. The comedy doesn't really work because of the sharp scripts or clever plot lines (as Dave said it's naturalistic and improvised), but because the characters themselves are fully formed, lovable people who make you laugh. It takes a bit of time to get to know them-so it's only when you get 4 episodes in, first series (Mrs Peterson's Dog), for example that you get the community/family vibe and start to see what a top bloke Julian is. But if you don't like it after 4 episodes or so, then, well, you probably just don't like it

Just wondering......which bits choke you? I'd go for: Bubble's present (sorry, but it IS great); the whole Treena-Ricky relationship in season 2, 'specially the scene when Ricky explains why they can't hang out anymore, and the end of 'The Bible Pimp' when Julian's 'big love' tells him he's just a dirty trailer park boy......sob!

Just wondering......which bits choke you? Bubbles shed! (just in general, but specifically, the 'incident' in season 2! Plus at the end of that episode when Treena gives Bubbles the little pot of bubble blowing stuff! Kezz.... like Jill says, alot of the enjoyment of TPBs comes from knowing the characters well. Give it a good chance. I'm guessing your feelings of dullness may be stemming from the fact that you are currently just watching a bunch of characters you don't really know swear alot. haha. Good find Rich. I remember checking out Google video a while ago, and possibly all the episodes are on there... and they seem to be legit too... upped by a proper production company. Conky episode: Ricky: "Even though Bubbles was Bubbles, he was two people at the same time as being Bubbles, and he tried to act like this other person who wasn't Bubbles, but he was still Bubbles. It was fucked!" The Conky episode also features an instance of Ricky being called Reveen. I did some research (a few pages back in this thread) and discovered that Reveen is a Canadian illusionist. The picture below shows why it is funny that Ricky gets annoyed when he has "Reveen" shouted at him! haha

You've Got to Blame the Thing up There (5): Bubbles: This is the most fucked up thing you've ever done to me. Ricky: No it's not. Look, you started taking the blame and, I mean, I didn't want you to, but you did and you're my best friend so I gotta let you. That's what best friends do.

Bubbles explaining low-end crime to Ricky Ricky: I think you need to explain it to me again Bubbles: Alright, there's a fridge full of pepperoni that you don't own.. Class Reminds me of another bit in the first series where Bubbles is trying to get a cat back from Ricky which he loaned to him (to protect the weed plants which he is growing in his car from squirrels peeing on them). Bubbles: "If you love something you should let it go. If it comes back then you own it, and if it doesn't come back you don't own it.... and if it doesn't come back your an asshole."

What do you think about the 'stoner humour' ' slur that gets attached to TPB? I think it misses the point a lot of the time (their being stoned is just incidental), but some of it is pure stoner humour-like Ricky's bear hug, head in the mid-riff fights???

Yeah... the stoner humour label is really something that works against Trailer Park Boys. Obviously it contains some, but that's down to the very nature of the boys ventures. Most of the humour is in no way stoner humour..... if anything, there's more drunkards humour than stoners humour.
I love the little scene with Trinity talking to camera after the weed-brownies incident.
Trinity: "Mummy's going to be mad cos I shot Daddy in the bum..." - Trinity takes a bite of brownie - "... these taste funny!" Trinity lobs the brownie away! ;D
I love the way her lobbing of the brownie is just like Daddy's solution to getting rid of stuff... just chuck it out of the way. There is something really funny about stuff being chucked about... but especially so when it is these characters that you get to know. Like Bubbles getting some carts together for the robbery to get wedding reception food. He finds a knackered cart... then cut to him attempting to chuck it into a skip..... and failing.

Here's fun news! RichK bought Season 1 and 2 DVD for Shane as a Christmas present! Nice!
No word from Mr Meadows on TPBs yet..... but surely to goodness he's going to love it! If he doesn't.... then well.... I may just have to shut this site down.

I gather there's now a half decent torrent of the film.
'though I suspect that most fans on site would rather wait until 20/02 for the real thing. Currently top of my wish list!
What do you make of it Hyde?

Rich, the 'fridge full of pepperoni' exchange is true class-cracked me up! I love the bit in season 5 where Ricky wanders into Ray's burnt out trailer, open's the fridge, takes out the pepperoni and says 'awsome'
