Just like buses, you wait ages for one and then...... Following on from Soul Boy, looks like there is another Northern Soul film in the offing. Not to prejudge, but it looks a wee bit shite: www.northernsoulthefilm.com/teaser/teaserNeedless to say, I look forward to seeing it with relish. Why? Ignore the visual/dialogue distractions and soak up the soundtrack people ;D One day somebody will do this right....

Quite want to see this new Snow White film. Johnny Harris sharing the honours with Hoskins, Winstone and co-brilliant! Eddie Marsan's in it-that'll be confusing

Those I most want to see at the moment:
Prometheus Killer Joe Expendables 2 Django Unchained Skyfall The Savages
I'm sure there are plenty of others but these are the stand-outs for me.

I've been waiting for this for years it seems! Oh, I have been, because it has taken 5 years to make!
SAMSARA
Ron Fricke's new non-verbal showcase! You should know him as the director of Baraka, and maybe Chronos. He started his non-verbal film-making as director of photography on Koyannisqatsi.
Trailer! Can't wait... I think we're showing it where I work... but I don't feel we have a screen big enough to do it justice.
Also stumbled upon this....
CLOUD ATLAS Based on a book I know nothing about.... but this trailer is unbelievable in ambition and scope. No idea what is going on or how on earth it can all fit together. Intriguingly it has three directors.... The Wachowski's (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). Incase you didn't know, the creative duo behind The Matrix trilogy (and my fave, Speed Racer!) Andy and Larry Wachowski are now.... Andy and Lana Wachowski! I did hear about Larry's full gender-realignment plans a few years ago... looks like the change has now been fully made!
Here's the three of them introducing the trailer:
and here's the (extended) trailer... make sense of that lot! I definitely have to see it!
Edited this post because I fluffed up the Larry/Lana name thing!

No idea what is going on or how on earth it can all fit together. I read Cloud Atlas a few years ago and it blew my tiny mind. I immediately read it again. Therefore blowing my tiny mind once more. It's an astonishing experiment in narrative structure and I can see why you're perplexed by the trailer. I watched half of it. Naughty trailer. Don't anyone else watch it if you've not read the book! ;D It does appear to be being quite faithful. It actually looks like a quality production. I didn't think it could be pulled off. I am very much looking forward to seeing this too.

Well this crept up on me!
Martin McDonagh's new film is out in October! He's the writer/director of In Bruges! I remember reading interviews with him around the time of In Bruges and he didn't seem all that bothered about making more films as he's primarily a writer for theatre. But he did also mention that if he did make another film it would probably be an idea that he's had for a while called SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS... and that is indeed his new film!
It simply has to be good! ;D

Berberian Sound Studio - a Warp film directed by Peter Strickland. When I was a fresh faced student many moons ago, I wore a "My Bloody Valentine" T-shirt on my first foray into the Reading University Student Union bar. A long haired chap saw the t-shirt and we started chatting, and he was Peter Strickland. Even then, his intense interest in and knowledge of films was apparent; only Companero on this forum would give him a run for his money. Through Peter I first learned of Artificial Eye and continental art house films (I grew up on a farm, all this was shiny new to me!). My first ever involvement in the film industry was throwing stones into the campus lake so Peter could film them on his super-8 camera, which was more or less glued to his face on a permanent basis at that time.
And then, I graduated, moved away, we lost touch. I blagged, lucked my way into the biz entirely thanks to Shane, and I'd pretty much forgot about Peter.
I do know he formed the Sonic Catering Band, a genius fusion of food and music, quite a few years before cooking became the staple diet of tv the world over. The "band" set up a kitchen on stage, and then set various foodstuffs boiling, frying etc, recording the cooking sounds and looping, sampling, synthing them into an auditory smorgasbord. At each gig, the soundscape would change depending on what was on the menu that night, so every performance was unique. And at the end of each gig, I think I'm right, they used to share the cooked food with the audience. See? Genius.
I actually read about the band in an issue of a porn mag which featured an interview with Peter (I used to read them for their excellent arts coverage, honest...). I think they played a gig in Geneva once, I was a hairs' breadth away from going but couldn't afford it in the end.
And then, for years, nothing. Until Katalin Varga was released.. and on dvd released by.. Artificial Eye! I loved that. And it's a very good film indeed, exquisitely shot with enviable locations (it's a burden, or a trait, that I should watch the backdrops a lot in films..).
Peter was interviewed on an edition of Radio 4's "The Film Show" which I heard, and his "just go out there and do it" ethos sounded very familiar to anyone who is a regular on this site... so, having done quite a lot of projects with Warp I thought I'd be clever and see if they'd heard of Peter too, maybe try to get them together or something. I mentioned this in the warp office and they said "oh yeah we're already meeting him next week" - unreal.
So... Berberian Sound Studio. Clearly a culmination of so many great things, garnering great reviews, and me with a slightly obliquely personal reason for wanting to see it! RK

I'm really looking forward to a film with Keanu Reeves in it! It is a documentary though... called Side by Side about the phasing out of 35mm film and the digital technology replacing it.
Trailer:
Also, Mike Clattenburg's new non-Trailer-Park-Boys film called Moving Day. Looks like low-key fun. Really intrigued to see what it's like. Trailer:
"You're fully a moron for just repeating what he did." ;D

Trailer: Looks great! I'd find this incredibly interesting. You heard of Out of Print Dave? Its a doco that was funded on Kickstarter. I put funding in! Anyway, its about a cinema which has screened 35mm since 1978 not being able to get prints anymore. Its like the exhibition version of Side by Side. outofprintfilm.com/updates.htmlThere was also "The Last Projectionist" at our film fest last year. Never saw it but really wanted to.
