Oooo! I'll be checking out the community show!
But in the mean time, Mike Clattenburg's latest film!

Thanks for the link, jill! I've downloaded the videos to watch at my leisure.

How surreal! I would never imagined the live show coming to the UK... least of all after the whole enterprise is finished. I'm too rubbish to organise myself to go to that. I need a good three months notice.

There are a couple of shows in London Dave, with a few tickets left I think. I'm really looking forward to it! I'm staying over in Manchester- TPB and abstinence is just wrong Edit: visited TPB.org yesterday-first time for about two years-and there are loads of noobs-and loads of British noobs-so looks like it has developed into a cult thing.

A quick review then. Pretty good night all round. It was surreal seeing them on stage though. There was a large screen immediately behind them on stage, which was used to show clips (supposedly backstage, messages from other cast and Conky!). My eyes were constantly being drawn to the images on screen, then I'd do a double-take when I realised they were actually on stage The show was pretty good. Maybe just a bit Mike Smith/Bubbles heavy-everything kind of orbitted around him. Would have liked to see a bit more 'greasy' activity or small brains/big plans scheming from Julian and Ricky. Lots of audience interaction though, which was good. Just enough Raveen and Patrick Swayzee heckling to be funny, rather than annoying-the come backs seemed spontaneous too, even though it probably happens at every single live gig. Nice atmosphere, which I'd expected from TPB fans Good to see it, especially since it might well be the first and last UK tour.

can't believe you went to this Jill, I had tickets bought ages ago but had to sell them when the show clashed with a last minute holiday (so not all bad). Was gutted to miss it, sounds like it was worth a watch. No sign of Lahey + Randy then? I don't think I would have been able to forgive myself if I'd have missed that pair too.

Shame about the clash-would have been great to meet up. I would have opted for the holiday too though Lahey and Randy made an appearance on the big screen I mentioned. It was quite late into the show though and I've now completely forgotten the details-wonder why? ;D There were a lot of students there. Shouldn't be surprised by that-the venue was in the S.U. complex-but for some reason I was. More evidence TPB has acquired cult status maybe? I was wrong about it being their first UK tour. Seems they have been over before, so maybe you'll get another chance. The last five minutes was a plug for a new show featuring the three of them. I thought it was a spoof at the time, but maybe not?? Still can't decide, see what you think. The second link is basically the last couple of minutes of the live show.

Maybe, I forget stuff pretty quick I'm not sure about the new show....looks a bit, er, whack, but you never know....be good to see them in something new. Found these two daft dicks when I was looking for the link: I liked 'em ;D Don't think it's meant to be a tribute, but if you manage to make it to around 5.30, there is a nice 'rats nest full of shit rats' line

Watched the first couple of episodes of the Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour and I can't be bothered to watch any more. Quite nicely weird, but just not all that funny, and veers more towards foul and rude comedy, which is not something Trailer Park Boys ever resorted to. But... at least Mike Clattenburg started following me on Twitter earlier today! I retweeted one of messages, but I have done that many times before now, so not sure why he decided to follow me. 2012 off to a good start (online anyway). Oh yeah, this was the tweet from Mr Clattenburg that I retweeted. It made me laugh and was a fond reminder of all things Trailer Park Boys: Fuckn dirty old gas station groceries twitter.com/#!/MikeClattenburg/status/153487575930241025/photo/1/large

Celebrity fans I mentioned before, Clattenburg did once send me a nice PM-seems a decent sort of guy. The clips of Drunk and On Drugs show I saw at the Manchester gig looked pretty dire to tell the truth. So much so, I though it was a wind-up at first. I'm sure Clattenburg has it in him to produce some really good new stuff, but he needs to make a clean break with TPB now, imo-do something completely different. Edit: Maybe he did? Be interesting to see it. movies.nytimes.com/movie/464627/The-Guys-Who-Move-Furniture/overview

He also seems to have another completed film from last year called Afghan Luke which seems to be a heavy drama about a Canadian soldier coming back from Afghanistan with reports of Canadian Snipers mutilating bodies. But this oen wasn't written by him, whereas The Furniture film is. Mr Clattenburg didn't have anything to do with the Drunk and on Drugs show did he? I never thought that he did. I think he left 'the boys' to it, which definitely gives a hint as to where most of the heart in Trailer Park Boys probably came from. He was the original creator and main writer of it all after all. After the Drunk and on Drugs show, I think I can safely say I'm not at all interested in the creative output of 'the boys' in the future, but as of yet, I don't think we've seen anything from Clattenburg since TPBs ended. Did you ever see the final film Jill? Probably have asked that had a reply before, but I can't recall anything now. haha. I thought it was weirdly mean-spirited in many parts and just not too good.

Ah, I just assumed-wrongly-he was involved with this new thing....
I heard about Afghan Luke, but then forgot about it-shoud try to see it.
No, I never did get around to seeing the last film. I only watched S7 the once. I think maybe I was afraid the film would sort of tarnish my memories of the whole thing. My son, who's a massive TPB fan (he got me into it) saw it. His reaction was 'it's O.K.' I can imagine it being weirdly mean spirited. They were all falling out and slagging each other off towards the end, weren't they? Seems to have grown too big and become a money making commodity, with all the crap that comes with that trajectory. Shame.
While I like a lot of the later episodes-Conky, Green Bastard etc and the Xmas special, my favourite seasons remain 1 and 2-like you say, real heart. Looking forward to seeing the Guys Who Move Furniture-hope it's captured some of that early TPB good natured vibe.

I took the opportunity on Twitter to ask Mr Clattenburg a question. Something I have always wondered about... whether season 7 and its one-long-story arc was originally a movie concept for the Trailer Park Boys which was later changed to The Big Dirty idea which was more accessible to first time viewers.
He replied and said: "Nope, but it did occur to me while shooting it could have worked as a film. peace out"
