On the 3D thing, I completely agree total gimmick, I can't see how it can possibly add anything to the overall quality of a film. Having said that I am really curious about seeing Avatar and will definitely being going to the nearest IMAX in the hope of being proved wrong. Also looking forward to Cold Souls which sounds like a sort of 'Being John Malkovich' rip off with Paul Giamatti so it's required viewing. Bruce Willis's new movie 'Surrogates' also looks worth a look directed by Johnathon Mostow who most people hare on account of T3, which I liked a lot but mostly because I thought Breakdown with Kurt Russell is a superb thriller which he also helmed.

Based on your recommendation Dave i will give it a go.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona, made for a decent afternoons entertainment, not the biggest Woody Allen fan but really enjoyed Match Point. It was a pretty good love triangle story, nicely perfomed by all.
One False Move (at 2am in the morining!) good gritty thriller from 1991 with Bill Paxton and an early role for Billy Bob Thornton. Well acted, pretty realistic with one or two surprising twists.

'Bound' the wachowskis brothers debut, I was expecting a bit of a les-fest but fortunately/unfortunately I can't decide, I got a great edge of the seat gangster thriller. Suprisingly similar in style to 'The Matrix' given the setup was completely different. Joe Pantoliano always seeems to be good luck charm in movies for me, loved it!

nah I like John Barrowman cheesy as fuck thats his appeal, as for the rest coming in at the last episode I can see where your coming from but its no dafter than The Matrix is it? and don't get me started on that transformers 2 abomination. It was really good old school sci-fi (a'la quatermass) didn't rely on big special effects just a good premise, I'd definitely rate on a par with Life On Mars, it kind of reminded of 'The Happening' but better done and Peter Capaldi from In the loop was great in it.

Torchwood was great a couple of weeks ago but quality British TV seems to be few and far between nowadays.

Just watched 'Crash' as I fancied something in a similar vein. Boy it certainly sledgehammers the racism message home, thought it was bit contrived considering the serious tone. Some very good sequences though particularly the Dillon/Newton crash scene, a good movie, though definitely overrated. I think Shindig summed it up nicely....a lecture on racism by somebody who knows less about it than you do.....terrible. Yeah i see where you coming from, I didn't buy the whole 'everyone is racist' message but I still found it an interesting watch. I've had the Clerks DVD lying round for about 12 months and still haven't seen it (got the 3 disc version for a pound), not sure Kevin Smith is my bag. Saw 'Brick' last night wasn't sure I'd enjoy it given the surreal premise, it wasn't bad but I can't say the plot turned out be particularly interesting. It basically felt like a teenage 'Bugsy Malone' but i thought JGL was very good as usual and there where a couple of unexpectedly fuuny bits. Not bad,not great. Also 'Go' with Sarah Polley which I had heard good things about. Really enjoyed this one, very fast paced and fun (vegas section was best). Doug Liman did a good job with this one pity his last two movies were crap.

Big Recommendation going out with this one '11:14' with Hilary Swank, Colin Hanks and Patrick Swayze. Directorial debut from a 27 year old guy called Greg Marcks and what a fantastic little movie, runs a brisk 80 minutes but seems to go by twice as quick, this is one of the best examples I've seen of the well worn inter-connecting stories theme. Funnier than a lot of so called outrageous comedies I've seen of late (The Hangover I'm looking at you). To explain any of the plot would be to spoil it but definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a good while. Not dissimilar though to 'Stuck' which Dave has been raving about, be really interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this one.
Just had a look the movie has got 100% on RT and 7.3 on IMDB

I just saw a film called Stuck.... made in 2007. I don't think it is a film that many people have seen, but it has my seal of approval and I recommend it to one and all.... if you like small-scale thrillers that are quite nasty that is! It's only a 15, but I'm not sure it should have been! With Mena Suvari? I swashbuckled it ages ago but never got round to watching it before my hard drive frazzled. All the reviews I ever saw said it was rubbish. i saw this a few months ago thought it was a cracking little film, really made me wince in parts. i have always liked Stephen Rea since I saw him in 'The Crying Game', its quite a memorably unusual thriller. Ditto the recommendation from Dave

Bruno, funny but not as good as Borat, I'm ashamed to say the dancing penis generated the biggest laugh from me "BBRRUUUNNNOO!!!"

saw this tonight, took till the photos at the end to produce an audible laugh, liked the characters and story (while threadbare) was fairly engaging. Just can't believe they manage to hang comments such as 'Hilarious!' and 'Riotous!' on a comedy that really isn't very funny at all.

Thomas Jane great in 'The Mist' and 'Stander' but passed off as a pretty boy.
Agree with Michael Wincott too (great voice america's answer to Sean Pertwee)

Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) and Joseph Gordon Levitt (The Lookout) spring to mind
I would also say Ryan Gosling (well known i know) is a well picked mainstream film away from superstardom

A fan made edit of Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions called Matrix Dezionized, my work colleague and I have often talked about how disappointing the 'Matrix' sequels were and how there was some good stuff in there but as a whole the movies kinda sucked. This basically removes all the Zion crap from Reloaded (40 mins approx) and about an hour from Revolutions. I was really surprised how well it flowed albeit a little too fast paced in places. Enjoyed it a lot more than the original films and very professionally done. They have done quite a few including a grindhouse version of 'Jaws' complete with scratches and some extra footage from other shark movies (hopefully Megaladon with John Barrowman hilarious!) Theres a website too Fanedit.org I think, worth a look.
