Enter the Void Good characterisation and interesting use of neon colours but the film quickly went from borderline watchable to self indulgent messing about by the director. If Gaspar Noe focused enough to create a watchable film it promises to be special I mean you do make a decent point pal, most of my friends have said similar.. but I won't lie.. it just fucking got me man. Films don't do that to me like that. Although I've only seen it once.. I feel like it sits in my top 10 already. I would argue a case that both his films have been watchable and are intellegent ways of telling stories. 'Enter the Void. - So far up its own arse its fucking brilliant.' I liked it, but did think it went on too long and became a bit self-indulgent in the final half hour. Up until then a pretty good film-definitely worth seeing.

The Lord of the Rings is a great one for this debate. I prefer to watch the extended 5 hour long badboys than the cinema cuts. I could watch forever. It is surely one of the best examples of being transported to another place whilst watching a film, Everytime I watch, within minutes I go to middle earth. Every part of me is there man. The whole thing is that damn important and overwhemling it can't be squished and squashed - this way or that. I repeat, I could watch forever.
If I was to take my top 10 films, they all do this though. Goodfellas, Fight club, Star Wars Tril, Enter The Void, American Beauty, Boys don't Cry.. Length doesn't matter.. if you're there.. you're there.

Inception for Kezz I'm afraid. I gave a slight thought for Dark Knight.. but have to say that what he has done with all of his films is always so visually stunning. Not only that, but he constantly throws up new challenges - and completely pull it off everytime. He can't be indestructible and faultless forever though.. can he?

Perv! A new addition to my own favourite short films - Sis. Dave mentioned this one recently in another thread and it intrigued me. I saw it last night at a short film night where Dirty Egg was playing. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I think Egg has comfortably been the best film of the night at all the previous screenings. But I've got no problem saying that last night, Sis was the best one. Kudos to everyone involved with it. I don't want to give too much away because it's best left watching with no info (I knew part of it from the other thread here, and I think it would've been much more effective if I hadn't known that). That at 'Bang' then Coyle? Sunday night? I still for some reason ahven't seen Sis.. I've seen all the other East Mids DV shorts from that year and other years, but yeah its certainly drumming up some attention. I know Debs, was in her previous short 'Lady Margaret'.

Shakespeare in Love -
Loved it, despite it being fictional you can kind-of allow yourself to believe it might have actually happened like that. Heart warming, and pleasurable to follow, with an exceptional array of fine british talent involved. a nice 8/10.

Another Year Mike Leigh's latest. Slow paced observation on the lives of a mid-life couple and their close friends and family over the course of a normal year. Very simple stuff, nothing much happens-no great dramas or twists-yet by the end, the characters and their inner lives are laid bare. Wonderfully well crafted and skillfully performed by a cast of Leigh's 'usual suspects.' Didn't hit the heights of Secrets and Lies for me, but I really enjoyed it. Leigh has a particular talent for close-up and personal observation-slow paced; emotionally brutal. Saw this, blew me away. Another Year - Only ever seen one Mike Leigh film and that was 'Naked'. Which was interesting but not knockout. This was more toward that. Have definate plans now to see 'Secrets and Lies', 'Vera Drake' & 'Happy-Go-Lucky'. My underlying feeling throughout, was how unbelievably real it was. A very interesting debate would be who captures British realism better between Leigh and Meadows.. As after seeing this, I'm now not so sure. Jill was completely right when she said there are no great bits of drama or twist.. yet this piece of cinema was so much stronger for it. A real slap in the face of peoples inner self. Casting and acting - second to motherfucking none. 8.9/10

Rags to riches, Kezz? More like riches to even more riches. They had the money to make the money. Still it was inspiring. Don't get a job. Invent your own. 'Was that a parable?' ;D Well, I guess. But this was still a 'rags to riches narrative' in the sense that they achieved something that was a far cry from themselves.. most notably women and popularity! And you felt like you were witnessing the journey along with them.

Cheers Kez I don't need to modify my post again! It's getting a bit tumble weedy round here innit? The Social NetworkFantastic! Probably one of the best films I've seen this year. Very funny, a cracking script and amazing performances. And it's all based on fact more or less. Well the people are real. Loved the 'Winklevii'. Amazing SFX... I'm defiantly going to see this again. It's a long time since I guffawed loudly and aplenty at one liners and the odd bit of inspired slap stick. The meek (He probably meant 'geek') shall inherit the earth JC said. Maybe so. But they'll still be nasty bastards! ;D Yar. I too saw this the day of yester. The Social Network- Fucking loved it. But I'm always a sucker for 'rags to riches' stories if they're told properly. And when I think of 'Fight Club', Fincher tells 'em. Yeah fantastic work on the edit, the SFX and such are always top notch.. and the story is broke doewn enough for people to follow it even if they have'nt a clue about any of the facebook lingo. I wonder how much I relate to it on a personal level as I (like many others) have lived through all the generations of it.. (I was the first in my school year to have 'Napster' and one of the earlier Facebookers when that became accessible to more than just the University students) I was fascinated to hear of Sean Parkers involvements as I had no idea, but they really portray him to be a dick! Justin Timberlake played well.. Above all, I'd find it hard for someone to see this film and say they werent even just a tiny bit inspired. You are the creator of your own destiny.

Wall Street 2:Money never blah blah
Exactly what I expected. The Fantastic Oliver Stone and all his thoroughly detailed and stylised story telling, fantastic transitions in the edit, and of course those vast long shots.. with enough ump given to the actors to make them really excel.. ..but on a subject I care nothing for and an occasional bore at times. Maybe worth a watch to a degree, but not memorable. Lacked a bit between the teeth to make me really care, but the direction is decent.. is that possible?
